Who are we kidding? Lou's just going to sign a bunch of defensemen and 4th liners, calling it "depth".

If his cap hit is 5-6 million then that is terrible. If he makes 3 with 2-3 million as bonuses I'm fine then he earns the cobtract . We had jagr at a steal for what he produced let's not over pay for what we might get next year. I think he needs to be resigned but in the ball park of 3.5-4 You never know with these old guys when they will drop off so that has to cone into consideration
- blizzzard

don't even start. We brought back our best forward lol. You pay your best forwards, even if they're freaks of nature that put up 60 points at age 42! Next year will be easier for Jagr too without the compressed schedule.

If your best forward is 42 years old...you're going to have problems. Especially in a league that is getting faster and faster every year.

No doubt that Jagr had a great season and made the players around him better. But, he shouldn't be relied upon to be the top player or play on the top line.

If he's playing like he should be on the top line then you play him on the top line. You don't say,, "Oh he's 42 so he's not good enough anymore".

Jagr made a great point earlier in the year when he said that the team that has the puck controls the speed of the game, so if they have the puck when they're out there more often then not how fast or slow he is becomes greatly diminished

Pretty much this. Jagr might have some drop off from this past year, or he might not. Heck, I wouldn't be that surprised if he was even better next season. The dude is not normal. But you don't judge a player based on just their age, especially with Jagr.

Lou should be negotiating with this guy got to get him resigned and out of the way. He will likely go all the way to free agency and resign with us or somebody in the final few days before the season. Probably a smart move by him, he likes playing for the Devils but he also likes playing in the playoffs. He will likely wait to see what moves Lou makes ( Schneider, Scoring needs, dropping dead weight ect.) before making any decisions. It would be terrible if he got injured over there and forced him to retire. I get he loves the game and loves to play but if that if that is the case and he wants to play a few more years he should consider cutting down on these events.

Never question the legend! Use it or lose it is his mentality. Wish more guys on our team worked as hard he does to stay in shape.

Well duh we had problems last year he needs help. But to lose Jagr and add anything would be a lateral and probably backwards move. If Zajac could of finished a little more and he had better linemates than Zubs/Ruutu he could of easily had another 15-20 pts.

i dont think anyone would deny the devils had offensive problems last year...doesnt mean you dont bring back the best player from that group...

Sure, except for when they don't have the puck. His skating speed is the issue, not his age. The team, as a whole, needs to add more speed to their forecheck.

If Jagr ends up on the top line, one would have to assume that they failed in that regard.

No one was just saying that we have to keep him even if we don't bring anyone in. Definitely needs some more help though.

Wouldn't say that at all. Jagr and Zajac need a better LW and I would imagine that being are top line. You can't say Jagr's speed was a problem last year it simply wasn't. Maybe a few times it hurt him on the back check but the guy was still +16 on a team full of minus players and the next closest players to him were +3. Cam, Greene, Anton, and Henrique. Some guys can adapt when they lose there explosiveness clearly Jagr is one of those guys.

I agree.

I think that if you look at some of the teams that are poised to make a run in the playoffs, you see how much speed they generate through the neutral zone. Their forecheck, for all intents and purposes, starts at the redline rather than at the blueline as it would more traditionally. As a result, since it has defenses backing off, they create a lot more space for themselves once the puck is in deep.

The more speed they can add around Jagr, Henrique, Zajac, and Elias the better off theyre going to be.

They need to add more speed around him to improve the offensive production as a whole.

He was far and away the best offensive player they had last year. He out produced everyone.

But, if you look at the other teams in the playoffs, and the way that they create offense, the Devils are way behind.

That's a big reason why they missed the playoffs.
