Which really says something with the way they hand out money like candy there - Cheeseballin
Yup. I think Callahan's "leadership" is lacking a well.
Rangers- Underachieved
Team USA- Underachieved
Lightning - Swept
Not saying it's his fault but he certainly doesn't have a ton of success to back it up |

It wasn't the money Callahan wanted, it was the term length the Rangers didn't want. |

Self-quote: but is there a gm more overrated in the league than Shero? Crosby and Malkin were both no-brainers, but what has he done other than those two? Pens always seem to have the same weaknesses, and for all the NBC slobber they have on them, they only have the one cup to show for it. - nfph
Without a doubt he's over rated.

That really doesn't answer my question.
Knowing what we know about the trade, do you still make it?
And yes there's still a good chance Mogilny gets 76. Turgeon had 132 pts with 74 assists that season. - dadeadhead
Yes I do make it. I want the better player, and I think lafontaine had more intangibles. |

Never said it was a rule but when I mentioned kids aren't ready I was slammed by a certain few on here that told me if you go in the top 3, you are ready to play. So i guess i'm wrong and they are right. - SABRES 89
Theres a long history of players being picked top 3 not playing immediately in the NHL. Not sure why anyone would argue that they HAVE to play in the NHL.
2013 - Drouin
2012 - Murray
2011 - Huberdeau
2010 - Gudbranson
2007 - JVR, Turris
2006 - Johnson, Toews
So on....
Majority of them werent NHL ready and thats why they got sent back, but not all of them. The closest players to NHL ready this year are Reinhart and Ekblad. If we picked one of the two and sent them back, it has nothing to do with NHL ready. |

They might be one of the most stubborn franchises in the league. They carry this air about them that the way they do things is the right way to do things, and are very slow to change that. |

Read a quote by their GM, it was too long of a term for him.

I don't think it's just Callahan though. I think that type of player is grossly overvalued by the league as a whole. |

Well, he is a decent GM IMO but the Pens fans talk about him like he's a genius.
He's made some decent trades but he has two top 5 NHL players and can't fix simple issues like the bottom 6? |

Longer Term is paying him more money. Think about you will get it at some point. They didn't want to pay him that money. |

i think the rangers are the best team in the east right now, except for boston.
rangers were my pick to represent the east in the cup.
i still think whoever comes out of the west takes it. between the ducks, hawks, sharks theres too much raw talent there. Even the wild/avs are playing great. |

I thought the Neal trade was good trade for them. Although Goligoski has certainly emerged this year in Dallas.
The Hossa trade got them to the Cup final by having a monster playoffs. It also got them Pascal DuPuis who is an unsung hero on that team.
The SC winning Penguins team had a solid D (Orpik, Gonchar, Scuderi, Letang, Gill, Eaton, Goligoski, Boucher) |

Minnesota is benefiting from the fact that they're playing a very inexperienced team. The Wild get beat handily by Anaheim, Chicago, LA, San Jose, and probably even St. Louis. |

anaheim, chicago, la, and sj are probably the top 4 teams in the league right now.
i think any/all of them beat anyone from east in a best of 7.
personally, i still think this will be the sharks year. |

The bottom 6 isnt as "simple" as people make it out to be. Then again, my idea of a hockey team is a lot different than most Buffalo fans who think the bottom 6 doesnt matter and that rhe likes of John Scott, Kaleta, and Ellis are perfect bottom 6 players. |

That 2009 team was the last team to win a Cup without a dominant defenseman. |

Give my the cup winning LA teams bottom six all day and night.
...assuming they keep up that level of play |

The bottom 6 only matters when you have your top 6 in place. The Kings bottom 6 makes minimal difference on a team with the Sabres top 6. |

well of course, but kaleta/scott/ellis still have no place on a competitive teams bottom six. ellis i could see entertaining an argument for.
which is what i hope we are going to achieve... someday |

Read below. It was the NTC. We both will get it:
Sather said at the Garden after Wednesday afternoon’s trade deadline that he and Callahan’s agent, Steve Bartlett, had drawn closer in negotiations on the salary in a six-year contract extension, but Bartlett’s insistence upon a no-trade clause led the GM to commit to dealing his heart-and-soul right wing. |

No they were "STARS" Vanek, Pommer, Soup to name a few. We got nothing in return IMO. - SABRES 89
Vanek is the only star in that group, and moulsen a 1st and a 2nd isnt that bad for him on an expiring contract. Nash go more since he was locked up under term still. |

It's not simple, but it's something that has been a weakness for a few years yet he can't figure it out |
