Remind me again how many playoff series Trotz has won during his long coaching career? - smkuchta
Not to mention that he can't coach offense
(The reason he was not extended)
Yeah, he is hot alright. |

One would think Pittsburgh. One would also think that's a poor match. - BetterCallSaul

FACT #2 He's been unemployed the day after the season ended. Not like he's still under contract like Deboer. - GCHonda
Sorry, I thought you meant why haven't these teams hired him prior to last week. Cal down. |

Attempt #1281 at the same Barry Trotz joke.
I've been hearing lots of bad things from different sources that Barry might be a great coach, but he rarely sticks his neck out for his players. - Fan2
My man, that made me laugh! I bet you're handsome to boot. |

7 trips to the playoffs and 2 series wins. Doesn't exactly scream superstar does it.
Is he a good coach? Maybe for a NJ/Minnesota/Tortz Rangers type team. I am not really interested in finding out if he can coach entertaining, uptempo hockey with my team.
FYI, he had some pretty good teams in Nashville. They might have been defensively oriented but when you have Weber & Suter 2 of the top 5 Dmen in the league and Rinne in goal you expect more than a couple of CQF appearances.
None of his teams ever overachieved in the playoffs did they? |

Yeah, but Legwand and Hornqvist were your big scorers... |

Defence is great, but you need all three components (offence, defence and goaltending) to do much of anything...his roster was sorely lacking one of those components |

It wasn't the roster. There is scoring talent on the roster, but guys like Legwand, Smith, and Wilson have been stunted by his defense first system. The plan in the attack zone involved hard work, chip it in, dump and chase, work along the boards, and hope the opponents make a mistake.
This was never a great plan for CREATING offense. He couldn't coach creating offense. |

That might be true but after 15 years does he know how to coach offensive players or his system a defensive one? I don't really want to find out.
Those Nashville teams weren't as terrible as people think. They had 2 of the top 5 Dmen in the world and a world class goalie. That should be a recipe for some playoff success and he had little.
Let him go coach NJ, I want to see uptempo hockey and he's never proven he can coach that way. |

The Wild...I don't understand why this team has been under-achieving the last few years with the amount of talent that they have. I might not have been the prettiest hockey, but they had some good season with Lemaire when they didn't have the star power that they have now...Gaborik was great, for the 28ish games a year he played, but between Koivu, Parise, Sutter, and up and coming studs like Grandlund, Neterreiter, and Dumba...this is a team that can do a lot more damage than they've been doing. |
