thats unfair.. gunnar is by far the most reliable d-man when it comes to playing actual defense lol

leafs need more of that, not less.

- Dozzer

He's a dime a dozen Dozzer... yeah he's slightly more reliable than a 19 year old and a couple other poop bags but that's not aiming very high.

Any team trading for Gardiner is doing so on potential and there is lots still left..... a smart GM moves Gardiner this summer if his value is high, I tend to agree with you and believe it is.

Gardiner, Franson, Reimer, Lupul, Gunnarson and the #8 - Used to bring in a D to play with Phaneuf and some secondary scoring.

Van, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton are all in positions to make big trades and need to do so to improve.

If Orpik hits FA give em a big fat contract.

i get that. but franson will simply cost too much to be a bottom pairing guy who has a nice shot and thats it.

these are the guys other teams cut loose and replace with younger and cheaper prospects with the same skill set.. the leafs need to learn how to do this

- Dozzer

Franson had a bad year. He is capable of top 4 minutes with a solid D partner. Guy has size and hits he just needs to stop running around. EVeryone is so quick to love/hate players around here but the guy was top 5 in NHL hits, 30-40 pts and is a big right shooting D man. Don't grow on trees even though it's cool to hate on franson these days. Terrible defensively this year i agree but i think he has some tools.

and you replace him with?

i'm not attached to him by any means.. but we cant just keep putting offense only guys in the lineup.. the defense is weak as it is

who is better defensively.. on the leafs?
- Dozzer

Paul Ranger

I honestly think Rielly makes better defensive plays and far better offensive plays leading to less turnovers. Praising Gunnar's D is so 2011. He's pretty bad now

oh i completely disagree

he skates like a hippo.. is horrid in his own end and is generally way over rated because he can put up some points.. he will likely cost 3.5-4 million as well.\

cut him loose.

Moulson is a big scorer when playing with Tavares. Not so much any where else and his cap hit will be similar to Lupul's . No thanks.
- clark_griswold

He had 29 pts in 44 games with Buffalo. The top point getter on that team was Hodgson with 44 pts in 72 games. That's .66 PPG playing with nobody at all.

If I had to pick between him and Lupul, I pick Lupul. If I have to pick between Lupul+Gardiner or Gio+Moulson, I go with the latter. You don't?

agree to disagree but i hope you weren't one of the 'franson can replace dion' before the year to which i laughed at...again, he has tools but im not going to change your mind. 30-40 pts, top 5 hits, 6'5 and right shot but i digress.....point is on a good D (minus i guess gardiner for a more reliable Defensive guy) franson looks pretty damn good. He looked great in the playoffs didn't he

The points you make are exactly why they might be able to trade him for a useful player who's sound defensively and works hard.

There's so many Dmen in the west that we rarely hear about that are very solid. MacWilliam? Meh... We did the kostka/holzer thing and that was a huge waste of time.
