Just for conversation sake, I''ll address this post with my thoughts. No, it's not unrealistic in the slightest. Will it happen? Unlikely, but never say never. I'll make a few examples using 4 different defenders we have and what I think their value is along with what I think Murray would be shooting for. Remember that his stance on our top defenders is only trading with a stellar deal in place. Let's note these are hypothetical fantasy trades where all I'm shooting for is realistic value.

Ehrhoff & JT Compher & 2015 Buffalo 1st & 2 2nds to Colorado - Matt Duchene to Buffalo

Myers & Isles 2015 1st (likely) to Washington - Evgeny Kuznetsov to Buffalo

Pysyk & 2 2nds (14 Buf & 15 NYI) to Edmonton - David Perron to Buffalo

McCabe & St Louis 2015 1st & Buffalo 2014 2nd to Tampa Bay - Andrey Vasilevskiy to Buffalo

First, let's remember neither team has a desire to rid themselves of these players. Second, this kid is very..very talented. It'll take a lot to get him. Would you rather reshape the deal as say..Myers, St Louis 2015 1st, Buffalo 2014 2nd?

I didnt really get into the other proposals but that one that stood out as huge overpayment thats all.

I know the kid fits the Malkin mold and it would probably take a huge overpayment to get him but I wouldnt do it.

I would send the NYI's pick and Ehrhoff if thats the D not named Myers or Risto they wanted. If Myers was on the move it would have to be IMO for an established NHL player who is putting up tons of points

I understand this, but right now we're in the business of verging NHL high talent forwards. Kuzy's exactly one of those guys. I see him and his ilk as being priority number one on Murray's radar.

Edit: Unprovens are cheaper than provens.

Ehrhoff should get you a 45-55 pts 23-26 year old winger

Pysyk could get you more than McCabe right now since Pysyk has a few years of development a head of him
