he had not sniffed those numbers in 9 years by the time he was traded to the blues

best hockey player up front, by far

if orr played in today's era, with the advanced surgery to fix the knees, IMO he would be the best of all time

ORR is his short career is still the best of all time . The few times I saw him live were awe inspiring . Him rushing the puck up the ice was a thing of beauty . He had a gear no, one else had. I went to his and Mike Walton's hockey camp as a kid.

Nope . Ekbald will be the greatest ever . I hear he may be put in the Hockey hall of Fame as soon as this year! To be fair there was no exceptional status around for Orr . Not even a draft . He was in the Bruins territory.

But he did have full page articles written about him in the Boston papers when he was like 14 or some dumb thing.

He was a saviour at a very young age.

I don't understand all the hate on Ekblad though
He's gonna be good
I know we NEED scoring,
But drafting in the top 2 in 2015, plus getting a forward with a likely high NYI pick should work out just fine for us
I'm not worried about defensemen taking more time to develop either
Its gonna be 3-4 yrs before we're good anyways
And some of the defensemen we're counting on are not sure things defensively IMO

No one hates him, we hate the idea of drafting him. He's not a need, nor is he without a doubt the best prospect.

Add in the fact that historically, defensemen that have been touted as highly as a Ekblad/Hedman/Johnson have either taken 3+ years to develope or just flat out bust like Cam Barker.

My biggest fear is that we draft him, and he becomes just a solid top 4 guy like Chris Phillips

He is better than what we have ? Is he going to be better than Myer's, Risto, Zadarov , McCabe for sure ???

How do you know where the Islanders pick will be in 2015?

I will be immensely disappointed if Marchand plays for buffalo at any point in his career.

He is by far my least favorite hockey player, he plays a cheap game, dives like it's his job, and is IMO largely a product of Bergeron.

He also got a tattoo that incorrectly spelled Stanley cup champions.

Sad.

Bergeron on the other hand.... I would gladly overpay for him. He's a special player and seems like a true gentleman.

I don't imagine boston will part with him. Nor would I, if I were in Boston's shoes.

For all the off-ice issues that Seguin seemed to have in Boston, he has changed his tune in Dallas. There hasn't been a question of character in Dallas in terms of Seguin. I don't know if it's the team culture, or jsut growing up. If Marchand goes somewhere other than Boston, his off-ice antics could slow down.

I should also note, that I would not want Marchand on this team. Especially at the high cost it would take. Just saying that players can change in different atmospheres. I think he would be better suited in the west anyway.

Fair enough.

Seguin, he's really turned into everything he was supposed to be when he was projected as a top 2 pick that year.

Watching Dallas has been very exciting

If he hits the projected ceiling, then yes. If he's as good as he's touted to be, then he will be a bonafide difference maker, something the Sabres don't have any of. I realize it's not a sure thing, but it's a risk that they should be willing to take (assuming Florida takes Reinhart). Taking anyone other than Reinhart over Ekblad, to me, represents a safe pick. I don't want safe. I want to see them start acting like a championship team and go for it.

Any of the 3 forwards are a more significant upgrade in talent than what Ekblad would be adding him to the blueline.

Sabres have difference makers on the blue line. They have 0 up front.

If the Sabres were picking 1st, I'd say you have to take the best player period, however with the 2nd, they need to address forward.

It's also been stated be numerous scouts/experts/whatever that Reinhart and Bennett are incredibly close

They have question marks on the blueline, not difference makers. I think just about everyone on that blueline will turn out to be good, not great. I need great. Until I get great, I don't shy away from drafting someone that is projected to be that. To me, it's like quarterback, you draft them until you know you have one.

Look, best case scenario is Florida takes Ekblad, and the decision becomes ridiculously easy. Bennett, from what I've read, is closer to making an impact than Reinhart, but when all is said and done, Reinhart will exceed him. That's the ultimate result I want: the guy that will be the best when it really matters, which is not next year or even the year after.

It's actually like offensive line

Your top line forwards are your QB, your line has to support your QB.

Ekblad is no guarantee to be better than what we have. You can't not take a possible top line forward, and I'm pretty sure by Murray's comments they don't view Ekblad as the difference making type
