Ok, so I stopped being lazy today:

Ott/Vanek and Moulson = 58 points. Leino doesnt return = 69 points

Lets say that those that stay are 10% more productive across the board. Thats roughly 35 points.

So we need somone (or two people) to give us 34 points just to be as terrible as last year.

I think we can assume that one of Sams can contribute that much

Pick up a FA or two........we have now exceeded our production from 2013..

Now lets see how we can replace Millers 15 wins..... Enroth might be able to do that himself.....

So its probable that they won't be worse, but they probably won't be much better either.

Thank you. I feel much better now.

That's all I was asking. Sorry if that's not what was coming across.

Tell you the truth the bills are not terrible.... last years draft they did a lot of right things, they have 2 big options for this years draft and elite TE that can stretch the field or a cover LB with blazing speed that could help turn this D into a top 5 in the NFL
- Therat36

For as touted as the Bills Defense was, it couldn't stop teams from scoring. They only kept one team below 20 points (miami @19). and they lost Byrd.

Fair enough. I guess I'd just like to know why you think it can only go up from here?

We lost talent and as of yet, haven't gained that back. Cody posted a career high in points totals this past season, where do you expect him to fall next season? Or ennis, what are you expecting from him in this scenario? His 43 (I think) points weren't that far off from career bests. Stafford can be a 50 point guy but that's still only marginally better than he performed this season.

Risto can (and will IMO) continue to improve but honestly I'm not expecting jaw dropping numbers next season.

Myers could realistically have a 40-50 point year and that would be awesome.

Stewart could be hit or miss, as he's been for most of his career. Fingers crossed he has a good season.

Even if everything you've said goes to plan, does it make up for no vanek/moulson/ott? Who's available to sign that could add similar production?

I'm not trying to say IM RIGHT AND EVER ONE IS WRONG. What I'm trying to say is I don't already have this opinion that it can only get better.

I'd like someone to convince me, because I'd prefer to think we won't have another season of this caliber.

Put it this way, if they manage to be as bad or worse next year, they deserve hefty fines by the NHL for not trying.

Most of that was they couldn't stop the run. Spikes is going to change a lot of that. Having Graham playing in Byrds safety position and having Spikes playing MLB and Alonso moved to the outside I expect a better run D

And Byrd by no means helped stop the run..

There is always alot of hopes and prayers at 1 Bills Drive.

This is the greatest (frank)ing statement anyone has made about them

Its funny how no matter what the Bills do, according to the Bills fans, this is always the year things will turn around.

Even if they won 10 games a year for the next 20 years, I'm pretty sure they would still be a sub .500 team.

As much as it pains me to say it the Bills are closer to the playoffs than the Sabres so call me optimistic for this Bills season for a change

Not trying to be Debbie downer here but half way through the season when they suck is "teams are never good the first year when coaches change". I hope I'm wrong.

I just refuse to be miserable about an upcoming season that has yet to start (not counting this coming Sabres season). Are they (Bills) gonna be good? Probably not but I refuse to be miserable about it already

There is always an excuse why they are bad. Coaching change, Bad Coaching, Injuries, Owner, Stadium, Poor draft history, Bad Luck......its tiresome. Its bad when winning 8 games is viewed as progress. Any team can stumble into 8 wins.

It means they are Histroically bad. They are 376 - 436 - 8.

I just did the math. They would need 15 seasons of 10-6 to be a historical .500 team (526-526-8)

I'm not miserable about it, I just have no emotional ties anymore. I watch the games, hope they win, but care very little when they lose.

Well considering I didn't say you were miserable or call you out on your negative statements you are defending yourself here sure seems like you know you are miserable about it!

Funny how LA turned a fourth into 2 2nds.
- TheSabresTaco

That fourth has become worth a lot more with development . That is why it does not pay to trade our picks right now . With Murray's eye for talent . We could develop some gems that other teams covet and we are the ones getting the great returns

i think the top two forward lines are all set for next year. the bottom two lines are where murray may start tinkering this summer. the d will be pretty much the same as this past season- probably letting ristolainen and pysyk get more playing time in buffalo though. the goaltending could be average to well below depending on neuvirth and enroth. if ennis and hodgson are our top line centers, our d will be left to fend for themselves quite a bit. icing an ahl team is different than losing on purpose. they will be bad next year, and that is good. dont think the league will say much, the sabres will have to reach the salary floor, which they will do by signing nhl players (albeit not very good ones).
