You may in fact be correct. All I'm asking of this crowd is to toss value assessments around. That's it. Take the whole "they'd never trade him" BS out. Value.

Myers and.. what. For Duchene.

- TheSabresTaco

That trade would be a straight up . The opinion of Myers is much higher than you think . you would not be adding to him. With current Roster . He is our best player at this point and only getting better. What Im hear as a concensus is you can't teach size and they love his skating ability . They can teach him the rest..

He is quickly approaching bust territory. I'm not saying I wouldn't take a flyer on him, but acquiring him should not be the reason why you take Ekblad or vice versa. Only reason they should take him is if they feel he's the player that can help the team the most.

If they are adamant about taking a forward, then the only reason to take Ekblad would be if they acquired an unquestionable top six forward under say 26 and gave up a defensemen in the process.

- Sabresfan-365

if they stock up on depth up front of potential, moving a piece or 2 on the back end, I can see it working

If the sabres moved Hoff and maybe Mcbain to get a few prospects up front I can see going after Ekblad

and no Mcbain is not going to fetch near what the hoff brings us

IMO Ristolainen will be our best d man 3 years from now

not a slam on Myers

I think that's fair. And honestly, it would be great for Myers if it were so. Giving teams another threat to worry about would provide some cover for TM. I think Risto will be more well-rounded eventually.

Not what others think . They love Myers reach . They feel his offensive ability has been stiffled here and they think if they can make him nasty . He will be an all star for years .

Myers and the Blues 1st I wouldnt go any higher

A low first and a top pairing D for a 70 pt 2 way center? If I'm COL and I'm for whatever reason trying to get rid of Duchene because he gives his team mates wedgies or something. I'm asking Buffalo for one of their 2014 first and maybe 2nd. I can't even conceive Duchene's value to be less than that.

A top pairing D man that can play 20 plus minutes a night and on a more offensive team would be a 40- 50 pt per year (if not more) player every year?

With respect to them, whomever they are, I do see the potential for Risto to be a threat in all phases of the defensive game moreso than Myers. Myers has the physical tools, but I'd give the tip to Ristolainen a smidge so far as puck control, outlet passing is concerned (I never see him panic), and I could very well see him becoming comparable to Myers in other aspects of the game, save perhaps his skating - because TM is a bit of a freak in that department.

I am on the fence right now on Ekblad

Ekblad, Ristolainen
Myers, Zadorov
McCabe, Pysyk
Ruhwedel

That has the potential to make a fringe NHL goalie look credible

Then again that D could get expensive 6 years down the road

And a first and a prospect.

Duchesne has all the makings of a top-5 center in the league, which is one of the few assets more rare than a top defenseman.

also an often injured D man who has work ethic issues and gets suspended by the NHL
and right now over paid

just pointing out the flip side that other GM's would be telling Murray

Colorado is not moving Duchene

Better chance going after Eberle

Honestly, I hope they don't draft him, just because to me it adds a lot more uncertainty to what we will be in 3 years. That said, I see a big silver lining if they do - and it's as you say. That d could potentially make up for a lot of shortcomings elsewhere on the roster (goal, and a thinner forward corps than I'm hoping for).

We'd need to be very careful to avoid being "Nashville East" if we draft Ekblad.

Of course not, I thought I read we were supposed to suspend disbelief in the scenario to begin. He's going nowhere.

Not a top 5 first. Not a chance. I think Duchene is a good player but will never be in the same category as a Crosby, Malkin, Giroux, Getzlaf, Tavares, Stamkos...

He is a good player don't get me wrong but top 5? Not in my eyes

yeah on surface, I was thinking there is no chance the sabres get Ekblad

but if the Panthers get their guy, I can justify getting him

If Girgens can be a #2 center
If Coho and Ennis can get along playing center wing
If Gringo comes around
If Armia turns it up

Then it's not worth it to you.

Colorado, I suspect, would see it differently. (And fwiw, with respect, I agree with them).

This is all hypothetical anyway but considering they are being dominated in the playoffs and even more so without Barre they might be thinking differently about not have a D that can play big minutes like Myers can...

I mentioned last night that I'm not sold he's a championship caliber 1st line winger.

IMO he's a faster Hodgson. Completely one dimensional
