I'm sorry but a deal that would include Strome, Reinhart and a 1st for Subban sounds like it would fit right in with Milbury's vast catalog of historical trades.

I really think some of you are majorly overrating Subban as a defenseman. The guy puts up offensive stats, but they aren't Paul Coffey stats.
Subban totaled 10goals 43 assists for a -4 this year.
By comparison, Mark Streit totaled 10 goals 34 assists and a +3.

Unless the Isles have determined that they don't believe Reinhart will be a top pairing dman AND Strome won't be a top six forward, I see no need to deal them both with a high pick for what amounts to a specialty dman.
You make those type deals for a Drew Doughty, Shea Webber or Chara. Not a one dimensional dman.

If there is a chance to pick up a 25 year old star dman I'm jumping on it. Chara and weber are too old to consider trading Strome for. You want to improve and make a splash.. This is a way to do it. I love our prospects but you sit and wait.. You hope they pan out, and there has to be a level of wait and see. I know the sticking point is Strome but you move griff you still have 5 to 6 legit nhl blue line prospects

For all his many faults, it'd be a massive upgrade for us.

Agreed, but if he can't win with a roster in front of him like Pitt... What can we expect on the Island?

There are two paths here with the defense.. Find a suitable bridge to get to the kids and hope they reach potential or move a few to get an established blue liner.

Subban is a star? His career high is 53 points. Can he be a star? Sure but lets not act like he is Bobby Orr. Strome will have a huge impact on this team within in a few years if not sooner.

My sticking point is that dealing top flight prospects and high picks for an incomplete defenseman who is going to want around $9million is a BAD idea. It's not just about who we're dealing but more who the suggested target is. I'd much rather find our bridge defenseman via free agency with an over the moon offer that only lasts 4-5 years. Let us go after a solid top four guy who plays defense. Not another offensively gifted dman who hasn't figured out his own end yet.

I fully expecte de Haan and Hamonic to be a solid combo next year. I think if we add another top four guy to go along with Vis, Hickey, Strait and our pospects, we'll find a VERY solid corps. Throw in a legit goalie (who would cost much less via trade), and we can take a measured step in moving forward.

Subban is a star?
- Vukota

I've seen this kid play a lot and I just don't see it.

He makes some very creative offensive plays and has a nice shot. That said, I can think of A LOT of defensemen I'd rather have.

I'm with you on this one. Would Subban help? Hell yeah but its not worth trading 3 top 5 picks.

Weber is too old and that contract is not great. Id try and trade for him yes but Strome would not be in that deal. I would trade Strome for Subban, Pietrangelo, Doughty and OEL.. That's about it
- Dan Petriw

I don't think Weber age 29 at the start of next season is too old... Yes the contract is a problem... But that's why I think Isles would able to make that deal with Nashville....
9.5 avg salary over the next 8 yrs...
14mil-14mil-12mil-12mil.... prime yrs 29-33yrs
6milx4 yrs.... 6mil for Weber 34-37 yrs old is a great value
What would be the going salary 6-8 yrs from now?
The final 4 yrs are 3mil-1mil-1mil-1mil 38-41 yrs old could be retired any one of those yrs.

Weber is the closest player to a Nickas Lidstrom type who might be available... Tremendous two way game... A great leader and a game changer... Way more the Subban who is going to ask at least 8 yrs 8mil

As for the other 3... I don't believe Isles or any team would be able to get.. Can't see any one of those teams given them up at this time of their careers.

Well he did win a Norris....aside from good offensive ability he does have a physical game.Imagine a bigger, thicker Justin Schultz with a slapper and a mean streak.

Keep in mind that if Weber were available, probably half the league would be asking about him....and you have to outbid them.

You guys should be aiming at the playoffs and what you have to do to consistently get there not the Rangers, it's part of your problem
- cranford93

why? We are not the GM? What can we do to get them to the playoffs? Makes no sense.

This is just a dumb post. A ranger fan comes into an islander thread and posts something. An islander fan responds and now that islander fan is more concerned about the rangers then his own team? Funny if the ranger fan wasn't so worried about what islander fans were talking about in an islander thread which had nothing to do with the rangers this never takes place. SMH

He won the Norris based completely on his offensive production, which just goes to show how much of a farce that award (or any other nhl awards) have become.

Im sure he doesnt have to imagine it he has seen him play. With that said I'd love to have him on our team. If the opportunity is there and the price isnt ridiculous I'd do it.

He has more to his game then offense. Hes a very good player. Hes not a defensive nightmare. Guy would be a legitimate first pairing defenseman on any team. Not so easy to come by these days especially at his age.

That player isn't available this season unless you want to give Niskanen that much

If you want a top four legit dman you are gonna have to part with someone.. If not you then have to sign some of the guys I mentioned and hope they can fill that roll

I would love to get subban but the cost will be high as suggested by Dan. I don't want to part with strome.

Also their is only one reason habs want to trade subban. Subban wants to be the highest paid dman in NHL. If a cash rich franchise like Montreal won't do it why should islanders and have to give up a future superstar to get it

Seems like Their are plenty of ufa dman isles can add

Also how could hickey be left off that returning dman list. He is excellent.

Dan, visnosky is not returning. Watch.

Im confused....

Some complain about how long the Isles rebuild is, and some complain why Snow cant obtain any good talent. Then some complain on why isles cant get, but don't trade this/him.
U cant have it both ways. To get something of value must give something of worth.

oh and RNH is waaaaaay better than Strome, so is Landesklog, Hubereau, that's why they went 1,2,3 in the draft.
Now im not discounting Strome's ability just pointing out that how long this rebuild is and now some who were impatient are going to continue to wait longer bc players take time to develop & more so on Dmen.

Isn't Orpik an FA too? I think Pitt will keep one of Orpik or Niskanen with a big offer, but can they keep both? If the Pens don't re-sign him, I'd trade for his rights to get a head start on the market and overpay. If he doesn't take it, oh well. I know he's not as young or as good as some of the other names we're throwing around here, but I think he's exactly the type of player the Isles' D needs: someone with a bit of nastiness. Maybe if Hamonic watched a player like that every night, he'd find a way to consistently play like the tough SOB he morphs into whenever he goes against Malkin.

Orkpik has been my preferred target this year. He's made some favorable comments about the direction of the Isles so I think he would be easier to convince than most. At 33 a 5 year deal could get it done.
