Get Franson from the Maple Leafs...at the end of the season, when the Islaes defense got bigger (Mayfield and Czuzcman) the goals against went down... - kear20
They both took there lumps as well and were beat on many occasions.. There is more two it than size. CDH had more hits and was far more physical than Hamonic last year. Size does help.. But it's not the only factor |

I agree. Unless the return is a Chara LIKE "D" man who can dominate games for the next 10 yrs. Then no way do I trade Strome. Not even for PK Subban. Especially if he's in a package with our top "D" prospects.
I've been watching hockey since the late 1960's. The last rookie Islander who impressed me like Strome impresses me was Ziggy Palfy. 1st time I saw Ziggy play I knew he was special. I feel the same way about Strome. He'll be special. Soon rather then later. - SCLI
Could not agree more SCLI on all points. Strome should be a special player and I really like the upside for the Isles d prospects. |

I'm fine with this but people have to realize there will be growing pains with these kids on d so if they struggle.. The fan base can't flip out |

I've never seen one islander fan on any board flip out over one of our players.

Strome,pollock,1st gets you Subban, and that would make you guys way better. - Graves#9
If that would get us Subban, they can keep him.

They can and they should if we have another season like this past one. There has to be enough help from outside via trade or free agency to ease these kids in the right way. They'll make their mistakes but there's no reason to sacrifice a season in the process. |

You guys should be aiming at the playoffs and what you have to do to consistently get there not the Rangers, it's part of your problem |

So let's say out these 6-7 "can't miss, stud prospects" only 1 or 2 fulfill the hype, where does that leave you as a franchise, when instead you could have dealt a few for established top tier players which would make your team an instant contender. |

you have to pleased at what Strome, Nelson, CDH and to an extent Lee showed this season but honestly outside of Mackinnon who looked like an all star already this season.. takes time... - Dan Petriw
Absolutely. I'm excited to see what these players can do going forward. To be honest, I was impressed with Bailey in his rookie year too. I wouldn't have believed then that he still would not have broken 40 points, and I would have put money on him being the Isles' second-line center by now. I guess my point is you really never know. Young players can be both inconsistent and deceiving. Cory Conacher had more points in his rookie year than Nelson did in his, in 25 fewer games played to boot. Fast forward to Conacher's second year, and I can't think of anyone on the Isles I'd want to trade for him. Obviously, I hope all these guys we're talking about become quality top-six forwards or top-four d-men. But I don't think we really have any idea yet if, for example Lee and Nelson are going to be top-six forwards or third-line two-way players. Heck one of them may fizzle out altogether and not even be in the NHL two years from now. |

I feel we're approaching a time when the team can really come together. The rookies next year (2 D out of Reinhart, Pulock, Czurczman, Mayfield) and Strome, Nelson, and Lee, should push the other players to work harder or drop off. I feel they will make us better.
Subban, while a good defenseman, is not the answer, and would cost too much. We have enough defense coming up and the forwards are enough, if we are talking about the playoffs.
The main two issues to be addressed are the coach and the goalie. We need a good NHL goalie and a good NHL coach and we will be a playoff team, IMHO. |

We are aiming at the playoffs, just because it's not the way you would do it, or the Rags organization doesn't mean we aren't aiming for it. We are trying to do it the right way, not the Rag way.

You aren't talking about a couple of the many prospects, you are talking about the top two prospects in the system... That's a HUGE difference.
Subban does not make this team an instant contender.

Dan Petriw: Isles offseason Targets; the DMen - Dan Petriw
The only way Isles should put a package that includes Strome is for Shea Weber... No other D does it all like Weber. He's the perfect fit for this team. I would have made the call to Nashville already if I was Snow...
Yes he has 13 yrs left on his deal with a 7+ mill cap hit... 13mill avg. salary over the 4 yrs.. But then it drops to 6 mill for 4 yrs up until age 33-36 which should be a steal(A-Mac got 5mill)
An offer with Strome is worth a call for Weber... not for Subban |

Weber is too old and that contract is not great. Id try and trade for him yes but Strome would not be in that deal. I would trade Strome for Subban, Pietrangelo, Doughty and OEL.. That's about it |

If wouldn't start with that deal but if push came to shove... Yes I would.. While I feel that Reinhart had elite d zone awareness I don't expect much from him offensively. I think you could move one of the d prospects and be in good shape - Dan Petriw
I'm sorry but a deal that would include Strome, Reinhart and a 1st for Subban sounds like it would fit right in with Milbury's vast catalog of historical trades.
I really think some of you are majorly overrating Subban as a defenseman. The guy puts up offensive stats, but they aren't Paul Coffey stats.
Subban totaled 10goals 43 assists for a -4 this year.
By comparison, Mark Streit totaled 10 goals 34 assists and a +3.
Unless the Isles have determined that they don't believe Reinhart will be a top pairing dman AND Strome won't be a top six forward, I see no need to deal them both with a high pick for what amounts to a specialty dman.
You make those type deals for a Drew Doughty, Shea Webber or Chara. Not a one dimensional dman. |
