Again, as I just posted on the last board, the isles need to hit a home run with their signings. They can't settle for lower tier options. niskanen will be the big option. The isles need to sign niskanen or whoever their top "D" target is and not accept that crap that the player just doesn't want to come to the isles. Make him want to come. Make him am offer he can't refuse. I can't see how Wang and Snow can't sell a team with JT here now and for four more years and Brooklyn around the corner. No excuses. Wang and Snow need to sell FA's they want on the isles and stop worrying about the $$ wang might lose next year, IF they actually want to win.

Why would we trade Strome for a "D" man that can't stay in the Devils lineup?

Oates now gone, McAfee too...yet Islanders circus manager Wang keeps GM who has totally failed this team, and Jack once again gets a thumbs up. This entire organization from Wang on down is a farce and is nothing more than a 3 ring circus. Not once in the past 10 years has Wang put an NHL caliber team on the ice...the circus must end, a sale must happen. Wang should be run off the Island.
- bhockey47

Nothing will change until Wang is gone. He's not going to change how he runs things. It's all he knows and all he believes in. Wang especially won't make any changes now if a sale is imminent or at least possible. And if the team is about to be sold, I don't blame him for not making changes right now. Better to sell the team without the incoming owner being encumbered with a new GM and/or coach they may not want.

Nah. Isles have tons of D prospects finally close to being ready in the next couple of years. Strome is not going anywhere

I don't understand how it's admitting defeat at all. The player picked will not have an effect on the roster what so ever. I have absolutely come to loathe snow for putting himself in this position. They need to acquire a first rounder next year. Absolutely stupid move keeping it.
- Dedshark

you are still getting a quality prospect at 5. a healthy group of forwards.. solving the goalie issue and adding a dman and this team SHOULDN'T be a hot mess next year. people keep telling me the isles will be aggressive this offseason...i trust my sources but obviously actions speak louder than words

Giving a top 5 pick up is admitting defeat for next season.. Still think they could trade this puck too
- Dan Petriw

Its actually not admitting defeat, just a choice of keeping the pick in a better draft.
Lets look at all the avenues.....

No FA of worth will sign here, so eliminate free agency
the only trade possible is if Snow gets raped again, bc other GM's know he's desperate

So whats left??? It doesn't matter how aggressive your hearing Snow will be, its the players & agents deciding where they want to play. And last I checked, we still have an atrocious coaching staff that I believe no one will want to play for.

you cant elimate free agency..they have money they have to spend. they will spend money IF the only reason being they are being forced too.. you have to let the offseason playout

In most drafts (even a strong draft) picks 1-5 this year are 2-3. Next year picks 1-2 are John Tavares/Stamkos Type player projections. Picks 3-8 are your average 2-3 in most drafts. I highly doubt we finished 8 or worse next year if we solve the goalie issue. Defense at the end of the season was 20 times better with Amac gone and De Haan in the lineup.

History tells me otherwise!

Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice? You know how it goes Dan.

Isles have been fooling us fans for years.

I'm leaning towards what past History shows me.

No one of consequence will come to LI for any amount of money until the "Three Stooges" have moved on.

Good players will get their money elsewhere. Possibly with a contender. No need to come to this circus and put up with the clowns we have managing the team/organization.

Even with JT and some good young players who could turn the corner as early as this season. It makes little sense for a Top Tier UFA to come to the Isles for purely the sake of a contract. Knowing that Wang Snow and Cappy are in control.

Isles may be forced to spend money this summer but that doesn't mean they will spend wisely or that the players targeted will accept a contract with us.

Stop gap UFA signings are the name of the game for this organization. Expect more of the same this summer.

I hope the Isles will be aggressive this offseason and the word on the street is correct. The problem is if Wang is trying to sell will he be looking to spend this offseason? I take Cappy coming back to not be a good sign. The other problem is the Cap is going up and the usual FA big spending team have more to spend.

No suprise but isles will keep this years pick
- Dan Petriw

If they keep the pick then they won't have the #1 and #2 pick in a deep draft...I think Snow gives it to Buffalo unless he can pry a top notch defenseman from someone (ie Subban)...

Once the defense got bigger with Mayfield and Czuzman, the goal againsr went down...

Who will be the goalie? No one knows but with the past history of getting old aged vets and watch worthy players sign elsewhere or just another bad signing, trust me, NO ONE is coming here!!!! Except Nabby

On D, you cant gage what will happen on D bc they are kids, we only got a small sample size plus your relying on this coaching staff???

Strome and a 2nd... for larsson, henrique, and the 2015 first.

Edit: i hardly think I'd do that. To be honest, if strome is going to the devils, the trade is gonna revolve around Schneider.

I wouldn't mind taking a shot at Joni Pitkanen on a 1 year deal.

It's sad to say but if they acquire any free agent defenseman I'd be happy.

It will cost too much for a FA defenceman... and we now the guys on here are against overpaying for players...

I dunno how you guys feel about it, but after thinking about it for a while I really hate the MacDonald move. Why the frank didnt Snow just pay him. Even if it was an overpayment, he fits the age group of the core and there is no one to fill his shoes on the blue line. And you also have $30 mil in cap to spend next season.

Trading a guy in his prime for draft picks just sets the team back more years. Each pick usually takes about three or four years to develop.

I don't think it's an outrageous asking price. Whether I'd pay it is another story, but the value seems about right. It's a risk for Montreal, too. Subban is a high-quality NHL defenseman...not an easy player to come by. Strome and Pulock haven't proven anything yet, and one of Sundstrom or Collberg amounts to a throw-in, really...a future fourth-line center in Sundstrom (who would have to accomplish the unlikely in taking that job from Cizikas) or a longer-shot prospect in Collberg. I'd probably try to either negotiate out swapping the first rounders or at least try to change the structure of that part of the deal.

Put it this way, would you trade Okposo for Strome and Pulock? That's the risk Montreal would be taking trading Subban for them.

how do you figure???

That would be the biggest mistake they will make. But they've been making those mistakes now for years....

Next year we will suck, and suck some more unless Wang sells and Snow is gone.

disagree...its the right move...regardless of the '15 draft.

Haven't been here in awhile and I'm not reading through all the comments, but I'd take a shot at Nikitin also. Outside of Niskanen there isn't much hope in this year's UFA class.
- eichiefs9

i would actually go hard after mark fayne...hes a very solid top 4 guy.
