I haven't been on here, but what I gather is that Laughton has "joined the team."

What does this mean exactly? Has he "joined the team" like the other Black Aces, or is he in the lineup? If it's the latter, do we have any solid information to go on?

I don't think the Flyers have said anything past "joined the team".

I think many of us have put him in Friday night's lineup already just based on that. He could be skating with the Black Aces for all anyone knows.

We know he can play 10 games before burning a year off of his ELC. We know he definitely isn't playing tomorrow. We suspect he'll get into game 5

I believe it's 9. Once he plays the 10th, it counts I believe.

Ha okay so we don't have verified info that he won't play tomorrow, but seeing as he probably won't even get in one practice before the game tomorrow, I doubt he'll play over someone who's already on the same page as the rest of the team.

What I understand is what the stats can do, and what they can't do. They can show general trends, but the can't isolate those trends to one player on the ice in a team game. It's impossible to do. Many of the Corsi disciples, fail to understand that.

Actually, most do understand that, which is why they use more than one stat. They look at a wide array of them, and look at what a player's teammates do with & with him on the ice, to gain a more complete picture.

In other words, if one player has terrible metrics, it's a part of the picture. But if he has bad metrics, and every other guy has worse metrics with him on the ice than without, it's a pretty telling trend. Either that guy is the unluckiest bastard alive or he's not playing an especially good possession game.

And yes, possession is not the end all be all. Nobody says it is, & they limit a blog post to CF or Fenwick, it's for brevity's sake, not that they only looked at those particular numbers, to avoid readers eyes glazing over.

It's not to open a can of worms, but you seem to misunderstand how people use stats

Actually I make the flight 4-5 times a year.....an hour and 15 minutes from gate to gate....4 hour drive from Northbay to TO which would of happened last night or early this morning....
