I didn't say or imply that. What I'm saying is that attributing the outcome of a game solely on one player is absurd.
- 1979AD

When that player is on the ice more than any other it affects the outcome. Period.

I'm no Gardiner rules the world guy. I think he's an offensive talent that needs some better coaching before we throw him off the bus. That's it ...

My comments are directed at the hatred. He has useful skills and he's young enough to make improvements to the rest of his game.

I don't see how RC and JG co-exist after RC outed him like that. It was pretty Wilsonesque.

I choose Jake over RC for our future anyway.

I'll stop all this sad pathetic arguing over the leafs in 1 sentence.

----------> Leafs need to run like a soccer team with 2 forwards and 3 d (1 puck mover 2 DFD)

yep, and his call led us to an 8th overall pick when we were basically top of the east after olympic break.

im not arguing or upset here im just saying i dont get how you guys point the finger at 1 player who was our best player in the final stretch of the season, it is mind boggling.

- big_dion

I agree Big D no way we can pin the whole collapse on Gardiner - the team won and failed as a whole.

Yeah that did happen when the situation presented itself - rarely. Cause we hardly ever got outta the d-zone all year. Talkign about forecheck when you can't even get the puck out is pointless. Puck possession was a massive issue in the d-zone.

I agree more with the other assessment that our wingers were to centered, too high and too low to get outta the zone or to stop the other teams constant cycle. We continually did not support the puck to get outta the zone. Can't put any of that on Jake.

i am not talking about the defensive zone tho.. just the break out

believe you me.. i am all for a coaching change.

but the thing i dont like about gardiner is his slow decision making and his apparent willingness to not follow instruction

If Carlyle was going he would be gone. Shanahan gave him an easy out. Carlyles presentation will be here's my style that has won. I don't have the players to execute.

Which I don't like either. He have SOME players his style and they didn't work out either. His one set mind is the problem. Each game evolves and changes. The dinosaur doesn't and keeps putting square shapes in circle holes. You can't have a SET plan and use it no matter what. You have your style, and you match the other team.

Of course it affects the outcome. But there are 18 other players also affecting the outcome, which collectively far outweigh any single player.

You don't need to describe punctuation, btw - I know what a period looks like.

The best teams are full of competitors. A system that needs you to win battles has proven to be the formula. In your own end you have to win the puck back. Leafs can't execute that with this lineup. Period.

I would really struggle to understand how Shanahan follows through on his promise to "change the culture" without changing the coach.

The 18 other players haven't got the same advantage as the player with the most minutes.

I could see Leiweke (sp?) wanting to wait until after the Raptors as to not take any attention from them.

No kidding... I am sooo sick of his crap. Stating the obvious.... we can't compete or be competitive etc... etc.. constantly bringing up the negative yada yada... Providing no insight to the issues other than can't get inside, no passion... whatever the heck that means. He hasn't evolved... considering the game is a track meet nowadays.

Most teams are. There's a reason why Mcphee still has a job in Washington and Muller in Carolina.

Change the players that will never fit the culture. The coach can't win puck battles.
