if bozak is so good put him on a different line to carry it.
exactly, he cant, cause he chips in his minor bit of offense and ok 2 way play and thats it. riding the coat tails of phil and jvr.
leafs will never, ever win a cup with bozak as the #1c.

offense from the back end doesnt impress me all that much truthfully.
if a guy can play D, and pitch in on offense then I'm all for it.
but if a guy is weak in his own end his point production doesnt impress me at all. - Dozzer
well i think that's a bit shortsighted, especially in this day and age where players' possession metrics are tracked so closely. there are guys who are weak in their own end. but if they're able to drive possession and your team generally outplays and outchances the opposition when he's on the ice, there's still value there. whereas it can be the opposite with a stay at home guy. maybe he's more adept defensively, but if you're constantly getting outshot and outplayed with him on the ice (hello, Doug Murray), then that's not good.
i know the crowd in here abhors any kind of advanced stat and i'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, i just don't think it's as black and whit as that. please don't ban me. |

Without him there the line dies been proven over and over again.

Good morning
He's the best we have.
49 points in 58 games not too shabby
Be nice if we could upgrade - line 1 is not our biggest problem. |

I'm all for driving possession if it's the right players driving it. Possession turning into goals turning into wins is of value. |

yes and this is where context comes into play and individual stats can be flawed. is it that player driving the play? or is he just playing with players who do? anyway like i said, i'm just pointing out that it's not black and white. |

I think every leaf fans views of the D is a little skewed after this past season. Everyone looked bad. i put most of it on the coach myself.. other blame all the D as just sucking |

I think you underestimate him. He basically is a super defender. He's gotta make up for Kessels Ovechkin like defense. Guy doesn't do poop unless he (frank)ed up of realizes hes got to because no1 else is there. |

i think defensive corps are like goalies. they get too much credit and too much blame, because in reality, like everything in hockey these days, it's all about the 5-man unit. the good defensive teams in the league are good not just because they have 3 good pairings, but because their forwards are committed to the cause. |

the players are committed to what RC tells them.. you can see they all do it.. it just doesnt work well. the solution is to tell the players to do it harder.
I read a great breakdown last week on it... I cant post it here
if the leafs could just get back to being a 48% possession team instead of 41 that would make a big difference |

That's crap! The players can't do what is requested.
The only way you get to a better possession team is to win puck battles. The players in this lineup can't do that. Coach can only give you the ideas. You have to be able to perform them. |
