Someone needs to explain to me how Cook’s penalty warrants 7 games and the James Neil knee to Marchand's head only gets 5. Both have a history, but clearly the Neil incident was much worse and targeted the head. Seabrook targeted the head and gets 3 games. The department of player safety is a joke!! Remember the Taylor hall incident on Clutterbuck? Hall got 2 games. Also remember that both the Neil incident and the hall incident were major penalties and game misconducts. Cooke got a minor penalty. If Suter did this, there would not have even been a suspension. Brian Bickel anyone??

The 2min has nothing to do with the incident or length of suspension, Fraser himself said it was the wrong call and should have been 5 and a game. past history, if they see intent or not, injury to t he player all play into this, Yes the NHL is inconsistent with their suspensions but it was suspension worthy and based on all those factors it was going to be a lengthy one. Cooke deserves to sit there is no denying that.

And if you think Cooke was making a hit and shouldnt of had any suspension then just leave this thread and stop trolling, you need to take the homer glasses off and see the play for what it was, very poor hockey decisions by a player who wasnt prepared to hit another player in a correct manner. Nothign what cooke did in that hit was textbook or sound hockey positioning and it resulted in a major injury, dont know why some people cant see that

Well Colorado, you are officially back...you join the long list of teams/players who have seen their fortunes (careers) put in jeopardy by Matt Cooke.

As a Hawks fan I am not worried about any possible matchup with you guys (both of us have work to do), but Barrie literally blitzed us every time we played you guys. He was damn near the best player on the ice against us. He is among my top 3 "list of worries" when playing Colorado (the grade schooler may be my #1 worry), but when I saw him go down I peeked ahead to a round 2 tilt with the Lanche MINUS that kid.

And no matter what I feel disgusted. It is time that Matt Cooke be blacklisted from the NHL. SImply don't put him on your roster. Let him go play beer leagues somewhere, but seeing promising young careers put in jeopardy is NOT what the NHL is about.

Felt the same about Toews when I thought Avs and Hawks were nearly certain to play one another. If im to beat a team I want them at full strength. I am tired of seeing skilled players taken out by dirty hits. Im especially tired of the opposing team's fans that get excited watching those hits.

My confusion relates to the length of the suspension, not the suspension itself. I agree that the play warranted a suspension because Cooke is a past offender. I just wish the league would be more consistent in the way it dishes out these types of things. Which player caused the infraction means more to the league than the severity of the infraction. I refer you again to the Neal/Marchand play earlier this year that resulted in 5 games. Past history exists, yet the intent to injure was undeniable in the Neal incident. How is the Cooke/Barrie incident worth 2 additional games?

I think it was the past history that did it in for him, I believe he has 4 or 5 knee on knee hits that have caused an injury, to me it was a fair suspension length based on his injury track reconrd with that hit.

League is softer on bigger name players, no denying that. People pay to go see Marchand and Neal, peopel dont pay to see Cooke, its easier to suspend guys like that. NHL will probably never change that stance, its totally wrong, but they are a business and its all about making money

One final note. I suggest you watch the NHL video posted below and if you like fast forward to the 3:16 mark. There are several of these hits and before you start claiming that your team would never do what Matt Cooke did, think again.

I assume you mean the kneeing video, that just links to a default video.
And no one said that the Avs are above any sort of hit happening, FYI, that is Porter, a guy who doesnt even play on our team anymore (2011) during a different coach Sacco. Different team, different system. Cant really use that as an example.

Porter sucked, he was a no talent bum who got ice time bc Sacco was a no talent bum when he played and liked to reward guys who played like he used to.
