I don't know. I hated Kessel when he 1st got here - he never hustled -just as I thought he was passed all the lazy crap and I buy his jersey - he turns to butter the last 15 or so.
I'm hoping he was just tired - Olympics etc - Garnie
Good point...he had a very long year. I don't begrudge him getting the hell away from hockey. The fans need to chill out. |

I dont believe the Olympics is a viable reason as to why Kessel did his disappearing act for the last 14 games |

IMO, there as far away as they've ever been. We were 3rd in the East at the 70 game mark. As awful as the collapse was, we're not as far off as people seem to think. A new coach would be a huge and important first step. - djamon
For sure, start with the coach, make 2 serious upgrades on D, get a good backup (not Reimer or Brodeur) and then start to fill some holes on the 2nd and 3rd lines. |

The team went into the poopter and so did he. It's already been well established he's not a leader so to expect him to bring the team out of that poopstorm is foolish. The poopstorm only weighed on him further. |

I don't agree. I think he became much more of a leader this year. Showed much more emotion and wasn't afraid to scream at his teammates for (frank)ing up. Could see the frustration on his face with the lack of help he was getting. Unfortunate. |

That, combined with his questionable fitness level would be my guess. |

We may have been third but our defense was horrible. it was a combination of our goalies being first star every game and our first line being on fire. Once the players stopped scoring and our goalies came down to earth our weakness was even more glaring.
Getting a new coach doesn't bother me IF you tell me who we are replacing him with. Which better coaches are out there eating potato chips on the couch watch the playoffs? I am guessing once the playoffs are over some coaches will get fired and then maybe we might have better options.
But why don't you like who we got? Our coach wanting us to play better defense which sounds like a good plan to me. It's the players who refuse to play that style that should be leaving.

Depends if they trade Dion. If they tweak around the edges, while firing Carlyle, then they make it for sure. |

The bones of the team are very good and can be built on
Goaltending? check
First line? check
Coach and D need addressing....
For years Leaf fans have been dying for a legit #1 goaltender and a first line that doesn't consist of poop like Stajan or Antropov..... we got em finally and there's no optimism? |
