all he has to do is wait til July 1 and he gets 6.5

the avs would be foolish not to pay it too. go long terms at that.. the kid will get better and by the end of the deal he'd be a huge bargain

i wouldnt be shocked if the avs offered him 6.5 per over 8 years.. not one bit

- Dozzer

I wouldnt be shocked either, would be a good contract over that length with the way he has shown the last 3 seasons he keeps on making career highs. He is a Bergeron light in the making, lock that up

look, if weiss can get 4.9 mill when hes older, worse #s and injured for the past 2 seasons. Stastny who is younger with better #s will get 6.5 mill easy

Mike Richards looks done. If we're dreaming about players to target can we please remove that plug from the list?

The QO is leverage but its only a one year solution. If he wants term then it's a new negotiation.

Hell, the Avs might prefer a 1 year deal especially if they decide to throw a big contract at Stastny.

Good comparison ...and you might be able to remove the "light" qualifier soon.

Someone there is getting moved...regardless of what Avs fans think. They aren't a Cap team, and they need to address their defense this summer. Looking at opportunities on other teams isn't grasping...it's prudent. You don't think other teams aren't looking at our roster and wondering who they can pick off cheaply?

The Leafs are said to be ready to make significant changes in order to change the culture of the team. Trading away Reimer which is a given is not going to change much on the team. Basically starting with the same team (plus whoever we get for reamer) that just ended the season.

We have no cap money to do anything at free agency, and their crazy if they trade their first rounder away. Teams like Anaheim, Boston etc are teams who can afford trading first rounders, not team who miss the playoffs on a regular basis and light yrs from contending.

We need cap dollars and also something to send a message to the players. Possibly trading a guy like Lupul would be a start.

We should all be cheering for the Av's. They are the anti-corsi which would give some hope in Leaf-land.

The Habs too ...but we hate their faces so forget I mentioned that.

zetterberg is at 6 million.. that puts him in the ballpark i am talking about
datsyuk's cap hit goes up to 7.5 next year as you mentioned.

my point is... ROR is already making 5.. its going to take more than half a mill to get him to walk from what is guaranteed to him.

my guess is you sign him for 5 years for 32.5million

its doable.. never once said it wasnt.

Colorado has a lot going for them, they're young, up and coming and could be contenders for a while given their core... All selling points that add value. You can also add that Denver is a pretty nice place to live compared to a few cities around the league.

Let's also remember that Duchene signed for $6M to 2019 and there is NO (frank)ING WAY that O'Reilly = Duchene. Secondly, Landeskog is signed for $5.57M to 2021, how on earth can O'Reilly demand more than that?

With term you could shave off some dough per year. If somebody offered you $6.5M for one year or $5.5/5.75M x 8 years ($44-46M IN THE BANK!), which would you take? $6.5 WITH term simply is not happening.

If O'Reilly wants to remain with the Avs then he'll need to play ball and fit in with their plans. I also think that Stastny will need to take a bit of a pay cut if he wants to stay there as well.
