This is an Eklund rumor- you know that right?
- saskoil21

I know, just for the fun of discussing. Fact is it would take a pair of brass ones to pull off a deal like that and MacTavish like most GMs in the league are lacking. It is better to have the slow death and make your draft picks every year instead of potentially losing a trade that might improve your team. Say what you will about Holmgren and Burke, but at least they are willing to take a chance.

Congrats to Nate, well deserved!

My guess if that rumor is true the target is either subban or letang.

and here's my question;

so the guy from high up in the oilers organization who put his job on the line to leak this rumour to your source, doesn't know who the dman actually is? did he just overhear a conversation mact was having and only heard 'a dman still playing'?
or did he only feel comfortable in telling half the rumour?
or are u willing to possibly spoil the oilers plans by leaking their side of it, but your journalistic integrity wont allow you to tell us all of it??

the entire premise of this website is so laughably false

good place to discuss the home team in your forum, but the rumour stuff is such bs

If the Oilers have hopes of re-living the glory days of the franchise, this is a good start. I think Letang has a better chance of moving than Subban though.

Sadly Edmonton is in a tough spot. Free agents generally don't want to go there, not that there are any good ones this offseason anyway. The fans are practically in revolt. Another year at the bottom would be a tough sell for management, which is ironic with how stacked the 2015 draft is. They will have to do something and NHL teams don't give away good defensemen.

I agree that 3rd overall pick is fair value but the flyers, or any team for that matter have no reason to do it because it makes them worst next year. Eberle, or someone else who can significantly contribute next season, would have to be added to any deal. The Sabres are the only team willing to tank next season before it even starts.

- psuhockey

fair enough. especially on the trading pieces for picks for philly. i think there might be a few more teams than u imagine willing to do this, but nonetheless, probably not a ton.

and id assume every gm is looking to add as much to any deal as they can. but the oilers aren't just gonna add massive pieces and get ripped off just for the sake of making a deal.

eberle straight up might be something mact would do. but u wouldn't be getting both ebs and the lottery pick.

if that was the price, id rather add in another piece and go after a bonafide number 1 star. Coburn is quality, but he aint that.
end of the day, the oil might overpay abit, but not that much. they'll probably just keep the pick and go try and fill another hole. just like mact did last year when he said no one offered him enough for our pick

Does Subban + 22nd + 52nd
worth
Hall + 3rd??

i don't think so.

Does it worth Eberle + 3rd???

I think so yesss.

Does Yakupov + 3rd
worth
Subban + 22nd + 52nd??

Not even close.

That being said, if the oilers were picking 2nd, i think the Habs would be interested as Ekblad would be a replacement for PK. But 3rd?? i don't think so.

Hall before Eberle...every time, for me at least.

Teams don't get better by going around making every deal like they're lucky to get other team's table scraps.

To a certain extent, the GM needs to act like he doesn't know his team's record.

i doubt edm would trade Hall alone, for subban and the picks............certainly wouldn't throw in a 3rd overall pick.

oh he's the better player without a doubt.
top ten in scoring again. 3rd in ppg as he missed 5 games.
one of the best wingers in the game.

but as the previous poster mentioned;
the oilers don't make that deal with hall involved.
while u guys don't make the deal with yaks.
ebs might be the right fit

all that said; its just a bs ek rumor anyway. all just make believe hockey discussion

There was anybody actually close in the Calder race? MacKinnon by a light year.

MacK all the way.

Palat and Johnson had amazing years, but they are 5 years older than Mack and have professional experience already with stints in the AHL and minor ones with the Lightning.

MacK showed up straight from Junior and has been dynamite

- DDM-Coga

Age should only be a consideration if used for the aspect of future growth. This award is based on who had the best rookie year. That being said MacKinnon will win

Edmonton was the 3rd worst team in the league. Your definition of shrewd must be different then mine.

I get waiting for the right deal. That's what I mean when I said the majority of GM's prefer the slow death than actually taking a chance on improving their team if it meant they might lose a trade and have to face the media and fan base. MacTavish will ride out his term never winning the cup or possible never making the playoffs in his quest to get fair value for his players. Just like Darcy Regier did in buffalo and David Poili and Don Maloney are doing in Nashville and Phoenix right now.

It for sure comes into the equation, the 23 year old vs 18 year old conversation comes into ever Calder race,
- DDM-Coga

I don't see how. Age only factors in consideration for future growth. The award goes to the player who had the best rookie season, not the best rookie season by a player U-20
