That he marks it up, is not the point. He uses it for a better grip.
- hscesq

lol...of course he's gonna say that. I'm sure putting sand paper to a ball gives a better grip also.

He's using some nasty ass hair crap.

Well, what better place to stash your illegal substances than in a rats nest of hair that no umpire in the world would want to examine with bare fingers?

Sean, it appears from comments from baseball people - not NY Yankees, their beat writers or fans - that pine tar will not alter the flight of the ball. Now, I don't know from personal experience, so I can't say 100%. Just statting facts.

Ok.

Still...any doctoring of the ball is illegal. I would consider this doctoring the ball. At the risk of pulling a Stee and beating a dead horse...does Rosen not give him the grip he needs? And the flight of the ball is not my concern here...there is a reason balls with shoe polish and other marks on them are thrown out.

Anyway....stee out.

I'm more referring to a very common practice, like a pitcher taking his cap off, slicking back his hair, and replacing his cap. Nobody would bat an eye.

Rosin dries your hands when they're sweaty. Pine tar provides grip when it's cold. Big difference between the two.
