Based on measured human reaction time, I wonder how hard a shot needs to be to just outright beat any goalie from that far away if a Dman really lays into one. I'm pretty forgiving on those total rockets into the corner, because I'd almost bet there's physically not much that can be done about those. Maybe I'm actually cutting a goalie too much slack though, I don't know.

I have a bigger problem with shots that slide between legs because the goalie's stick just isn't positioned right for no reason.

I really do believe that Mason is going to tip this series a bit in our favor from this point on. The PP will make adjustments and that Giroux line will eventually break thru.

This is exactly how I see it.

Did anyone really think this series was going to be easy?

The Rangers were the better team and got in front of some shots last night. Ok, fine, that's one game. Let's see how it goes on Friday night.

he saw it...he waived at it as it was going by him!!!!

He saw it late. I think the traffic in front kept him from getting a clean look. And the shot was perfectly placed.

It was reported yesterday by a few sources ("sauces" if you're from NY) that he was shut down indefinitely.
- johndewar

I don't think he ever recovered from that 2nd concussion he got (the first being in his first game). He played too well before it for me to believe he just came back fully recovered. Too bad. I think this is the type of series he could be useful IMO

Voracek and Giroux are both more playmaker then shooters. I'm not against switching things up. I just don't think Akeson is the right player. That 3rd player on that line needs to be a guy who is going to go hard to the corners and hard to the net.
- MJL

Hartnell is trying that... It's not working so how will another player similar to Hartnell make a difference? The Rangers are shutting down your game plan.. Switch the game plan give them a different look a different set up in the offensive zone make the D move a player like Akeson or even Read does this. The rangers are not allowing you to get to the net....ask Wayne Simmonds.

It's unfortunate that the Rangers have an extra day to let those bruises and aches & pains heal up before the next game.

If the Flyers don't get to the net, they will lose this series. If they don't get puck through to the net, they will lose this series. And it's happening with every line.

I like Downie and did want to see him succeed here, but this has been a lost year for him.

Could not agree more. He does not see a lot of quality scoring chances

The counterpoint to that is that Mason will have that many more days to feel right too.

I'd like to see raffl back on that line he usually keeps things simple

Hartbe on the 2nd line again keeping it simple

I would like to see B Schenn show up. Hardly notice him out there all series.

That was the problem. Lots of shots, but how many were actually quality?

Scott Laughton is still in the OHL playoffs with the Oshawa Generals.

Laughton could be done as early as tonight with the Generals down 0-3.

It would be great to have him on the 4th line instead of Rinaldo.

Whoa, is that a thing?

Could that actually happen? I confess, I don't know all the rules with junior call-ups.

i'm not sure if it could happen, but i think it if it were to happen, it would count as a year on his contract, so the flyers aren't going to do that.

This. He's been a passenger for the better part of 6 weeks.

BSchenn looks like the Schenn brother seeing his first playoff action and Luke has looked pretty good.

I thinks he's eligible to be called up and can play in 9 games without burning a year off his ELC.

I thought that Brayden was the hardest working forward last night. He was everywhere. Problem is when he finally gets the puck on his stick he doesn't know where to go. There were a couple times where he had the opportunity to cut right to the net like voracek but just drifted back towards the blue line. That's not what we need from him

Some observations from a very disappointing loss, and some suggestions as well:

Yes Emery did not play well, but I think Berube made the only logical choice by starting him. That being said, as long as he is healthy, it needs to be Mason from here on out. He is our best goalie and we are going to need our best goalie to win this series.

The Flyers need to do whatever it takes to get more shots on net, anything. Shoot the puck wide and go for rebounds off the boards. Take any and all shots available and crash the net hard for rebounds. And, as brutal as it may sound, if the Rags D wants to keep going down to block shots, wind up and aim straight at their heads. You need to put a little fear into them.

Learn to embellish. It is working wonders for the Rangers. If someone's stick is near your face throw your head back. IF someone is hooking you, go down. Personally, I hate that kind of crap, but if the idiots in stripes are going to be this clueless, take advantage of it.

Change things up on the pp. The Rags know what you are going to do, so DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. Take Timonen off the top unit and replace him with Streit. Then try moving Jake to Timonen's spot and put Streit at the top of the circle in Jake's old spot. Now you have a legit threat to fire the puck from both sides and, in Streit, a guy who can start plays on the right side.

Timonen is either hurt or he has just completely run out of gas. If this is the best he can do, whatever the reason, sit him and dress Gus. Compared to what Timonen gave you last night, Gus can't be any worse.

Finally, do what it takes to get Giroux and Voracek more ice time. At even strength, I would suggest rolling the lines like so:

Hartnell-G-Jake
Schenn-VL-Raffl
Read-Couturier-Voracek
Hartnell-G-Simmonds
Schenn-VL-Akeson
Raffl-G-Voracek
Read-Couturier-Simmonds
Hartnell-Schenn-Rinaldo
Raffl-VL-Akeson
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek

So in your first ten shifts, Giroux and Voracek each get 4 shifts and quickly get into the flow of the game. I'd stay with this type of rotation throughout and only use Hall for key D zone faceoffs and the PK

I agree but what they are trying right now is not working. You don't have to drive the net to pucks to the net. I think they will get better quality scoundrel chances with better puck movement and not letting the Ranger D setup.
