Certainly not high, and at the same time I don't think the Pens want to be stuck with his contract after what just happened to him. If something catastrophic happened to Letang, I could see the league voiding his cap hit down the road, idk that's just me.

Now you're making a HUGE assumption and pulling things out your ass.

Again, no team is giving up anything significant for a damaged goods player like Letang and HOPE that the league bails them out if sh1t goes bad.

On any other team in the league, he is a #4 defender. Lets not have our blinders on.

a gleason / gunnar bottom pairing / second PK would be great.

and by the time gleason's contract is up.. one of the kids like percy will be ready to step in

Isn't that what we do with Russian players?

Oh yeah, Putin is planning on taking over the North Pole. Says its Russias just like Alaska.

toronto's defense blows.

playing someone like gunnar on the op pairing is one of the reasons why.

Just too much money tied up in two bottom pairing Dmen, especially when we have other areas to improve on the backend.

Trade Kessel, you'll be better off!
- LeftCoaster

okay - so just a hypothetical... based on the wisdom of the canuck fan base "when apparently there was absolutely no doubt the only place Luongo could go was Toronto"

Luongo with crazy long term contract to Toronto (remember he himself said his contract sucks)

for

Kadri, Bozak 2 x 1st round pick and some form of salary dump

given that...

what could the leafs expect to get for Kessel

Canucks top two prospects (no Leafs don't want the other-worldly cert Olympian Corrado).... 4 x 1st round picks and a salary dump?

buying gleason out doesnt save the leafs much.. maybe 2 mill a season.. and leaves him on the books for 4 more years

its not an option.. better to just play him and let him teach the younger guys

his smarts are still there.. his body is breaking down is all

trade gardiner, franson, reimer and a pick for a true top pairing guy .. maybe someone like gio out of calgary

resign ranger

play gunnar rielly in a second pairing role

gleason ranger in a bottom pairing role

look to FA for a 7th guy

sigh.... I know. Which is why it needs to be fixed. Gunner playing so high because there is no other option, that's the issue. not the player. Get more players that can play, not unload the few you have.

Agreed, which is why I wanted to rid ourselves of Gunnarsson as it wouldn't make financial sense to keep both. Plus, Gunnarsson can actually be traded.
