No I don't agree.

The game isn't played like this.

LD are allowed in zone 3.
RD are allowed in zone 1.

LW aren't locked into zone 3.
RW aren't locked into zone 1.

Center are allowed to leave zone 2.

If you're a top 6 defensemen in the best league in the world you should be able to defend both sides.

- Bigzby

We're not just talking about defending, we're also talking about making passes and shooting. It would make for better results if a left hander were passing to a right hander vice versa on the back end.

So you don't agree that our defense would play better if our left handed defenseman were paired with a right handed defenseman....idk, maybe the top 5 teams in the league are on to something.
- ThePresident

I believe there's more to those teams success than just the handedness of their D. We can all agree that the leafs are far away from that being their make or break point for winning a cup...

It's like taking Crosby, Malkin, Toews, Datsyuk, Getzlaf, Duchene and going "Sorry...we 2 of you can't play because then we'd be out of position. It doesn't matter if you're better than the wingers...you can't play."

Valid point, however, defensively I think they benefit by having guys playing their proper sides. As for the other comparison, obviously when you have too many good players at one position, you trade some away to upgrade at other positions. Also, playing wing or center is different than being on the wrong side playing defense.

Nobody, because he sucks. Obviously, a player such as a Bogosian being paired with Phaneuf would make for better results than a Gunnarsson or a Franson.

You make a point and I'm not in disagreement that it should be looked into but I'm not making deals or signings based on it solely.

Obviously our defense needs a facelift....and if I were to go out and upgrade it, I wouldn't go sign or trade for a left handed Dman, if I had the choice, I'd preferably choose a right hander given our current situation.

We have our left side figured out....Phaneuf, Gardiner, Rielly.....now all we need to do is try to get 3 right handers.....because we have none, once Franson is gone. Pick from UFA's like Derek Morris, Matt Niskanen, Dan Boyle....and than maybe we can try to find some guys via trade, Bogosian, Adam Larsson, Kris Letang....again, just suggestions, not saying all of them. These are the top right handers that come to mind, which in my opinion could be had for the right price.

Letang is one of the most overrated D in the league and is a product of his environment. I bet Franson puts up 50 points on the Pens' blueline. Between Letang's fat contract, being very injury prone and the fact that he just had a stroke, ANY TEAM would be insane to give up significant assets for him.

Which is why we'd be buying low if we did acquire him.

Ok, and what do you think Letang's value is now? You can pretty much guarantee that the Pens won't be just giving him away.

Certainly not high, and at the same time I don't think the Pens want to be stuck with his contract after what just happened to him. If something catastrophic happened to Letang, I could see the league voiding his cap hit down the road, idk that's just me.

My environmental studies teacher always told me to go on nature walks

Philosophy teacher told me to be back in 15 minutes and to open my eyes to other perspectives.

And whenever my world issues teacher caught us without visene. It was time for us to go sit in the back of class and watch Star wars.
