Will be tough
22.3 cap space to sign 11 players - MTL1
Well some players will obviously have to be moved out....Gunnarsson, Kulemin, Bolland, Franson, Reimer, Raymond, Orr, and McLaren all seem like goners to me. |

Can't do that man, especially at 3 million per....we already have Gleason making 4 million, and than we have Gardiner and Rielly capable of playing the left sides after Phaneuf....Gunnarsson is redundant, and besides....he has some trade value. |

Wait, Gleason makes 4mil?
I can't believe I never realized his cap hit was that high... I was thinking it was closer to 3, maybe even below. |

He's good value at 3mil. No need to dump him. |

As I don't really see the Leafs being able to rid themselves of Phaneuf, the main priority should be trying to get a top pairing right handed shot Dman to play with him.....if this does not happen, the Leafs off season will be considered a failure in my opinion. - ThePresident
they have one
wait for it

Yeah, 4 million. Preferably, I'd love to dump both Gunnar and Gleason....but I don't see us ridding ourselves of Gleason. |

A single call can change a game, and a game can clinch a series.
See yesterday. - Bigzby
So that one call cost them 4 separate games?
I see what you're saying but there's more than a single call made or not made in a game. Control what you can control and that's your own play as a player and a team....
There isn't much a single call will do to a team if you're up 9 goals in the first... |

Not when you have Gleason. How do you not understand this? 7 million dollars is too much to tie up on two at best #4-5 defenders on any other team in the league. |

Gleason is the only defenseman with balls on a team seriously lacking balls.

I like what Gleason brings to the table, and think that he'll be a lot better player if this defense can improve some in the off season.
I just didn't realize he was making so much. Seems too much. |

Also, we have Gardiner on the left side behind Phaneuf, and then Rielly on the left side behind him....where would that leave Gunnarsson? Nowhere, it's better to include him in a trade for a right handed defenseman that can actually play his side. Again, if we could rid ourselves of Gleason, then maybe I'd consider keeping Gunnarsson.....but since we can't, we need to drop one. 7 million for mediocre talent is not good cap management. |

Gleason is decent, so was Mark Fraser. Only difference is, Gleason is making 4 million per to be a bottom pairing Dman. Maybe I'd like the guy a little more if he was making 1 million. |

having balls but being one of the worst D is not going to help. We have Mark Fraser 2.0 now except we cant move him |

We're stuck with these guys for a year or so. We need someone, even if it's Gleason to insulate our young guys who may make the jump this season.
The beauty part is that both Gleason and I think Gunnar have only 2 years left on their deals...it isn't long term. |

Morning folks
It really is gonna be a long off-season isn't it? No news is bad news regarding the status of Dandy Randy. Going a bit stir crazy, September is real far away. |

Gunnarsson actually has trade value, that is why I propose moving him. Not for prospects or picks, include him in a trade plus other parts to upgrade our right handed dmen. It makes sense to me, as long as we're upgrading. |
