Arguably the best goal-scorer. Hey, Stamkos is a complete player, let him at least have his "best goal scorer" title. Want to do a 1 for 1 trade? - Blackstrom2
haha. hell no. It's a shame he won't play defense, that guy is just rediculously talented. out of this world talented, but jesus. -35? |

Ben Bishop.
2 bad seasons after 1 game from Cup Finals.
There's a lot of points I can make, but I'll just stop. - Blackstrom2

Seems a certain Canadian, maybe francophone, in here has a hard on for Boucher.
It's cool, I feverishly defend the great Joe Sacco for no reason as well. |

Why did he... And don't tell me he lost the room! - andrest
Because his system didn't fit the roster at all? The way he ran his defense tied the pairing together. For a team that wasn't very mobile on the back end at the time (worse than today), it was exposed far too often. The possession numbers show it.
Cooper's system worked for the team all regular season long and turned a similar roster into a top-third possession team. |

it's really not about him playing defense or not. It's about him not being a very good hockey player. He has a ridiculous shot, all varieties, from all angles...but that's literally all to his game.
You know how much it sucks to have to root for a team when you hate the "franchise" guy who sucks up the biggest cap hit league-wide? I wish I was born outside Boston... |

Really lacked the sportsmanship of St. Louis. That's what was missing.

Now I'm cheering for that guy. Need to improve the Lightning's pick! |

With a first class goaler it works!! I know I watched Bishop in Ottawa. |

Guy Boucher was coaching in Ottawa?
The team never possessed the puck under Boucher. It's black and white. |

Well, I'm extremely happy with the way the Habs played this series, but I feel for you guys. I think it's a much closer series with Bishop.
It actually reminds me of last year. Montreal finished the season as a strong possession team, surpassing expectations with the help of some talented rookies and started the season with home ice advantage. They limped into the playoffs with some injuries though, didn't catch any breaks, we're at a significant goaltending disadvantage and went out in 5 games.
Sound familiar? You'll bounce back, your future looks bright. |

This is like if one of us defended Joe Sacco for no reason at all.
Seriously, what is the point in talking about Boucher? |

The only defense of Sacco is "without him, we wouldn't have (pick a player drafted high)" |

I think they lose the series with Bishop in net too, based on how things went down. But we'll never know. |

Hah, well my point is that it seems this guy loves Boucher for no reason, other than maybe because they are both French Canadians? I don't know, it's really the only reason I can see. I can't see how anyone can say that Boucher's awkward coaching is better than Cooper's. (And I was a huge Boucher fan) . Sacco is American, and also not a very good coach by results. |

Not sure about that!!! He was in Montreal's head when he was Sens! You've got a great goaler and Tampa is set as a franchise for the next 10 years. Thanks for your blogs. One of the best on this site. |

Actually, Boucher's first full year you were a very very good possession team; top in the East, 3rd in the league. Eventually the goaltending situation and defense simply caught up with him IMHO. It's really difficult to play any type of strong possession game without defensemen who can transition the puck.
Having said all that, Cooper is a phenomenal coach, I expect he'll do well long term.

This is what I said. The roster didn't fit his system. Not mobile enough. |

Boucher's pseudo trap was easy for other coaches to figure out how to break it. Like I said, I was a huge Boucher fan his first year, but it was obvious that it wasn't going to sustain. |
