I think if you replaced Timonen with his 2010 self and added 2010 Pronger, this team would be alright. While the rest of the team can try and compensate for lack of skill on the back end, you're in a better place if they don't need to compensate because you have better players back there

and a guy like lappy wouldn't hurt. i just don't see a glue guy like that now.

they need an infusion of skill on the wing and on the back end - how they do that, i don't know.

- hammarby31

They have to wait for it, just like everybody else.

They aren't quite ready yet -- everybody knew this at midseason. They need the drafted players to develop, so we have adequate depth from which to trade.

We might have some answers in Ghost and Hagg and Morin and Laughton -- have a feeling that a Coburn-Ghost pairing is on tap for 2014-2015 -- and there are still some cards they can play to,get a second-line winger with skill in here to play with Schenn, if you think he is an answer going forward.

I just think it's a bad idea to move a ton of these guys right now. I'd look hard at Grossmann and I probably would've let MacDonald walk for that money, but it's not as bad as it looks right now. They just need to be patient

If Akeson keeps playing decent, wonder if he gets a look with Schenn next year considering he's supposedly more of a scorer anyways. I still don't know much about him, but he doesn't look out of place.

I just encourage folks to just take a deep breath right now, that's all.

It looks like Boston's about ready to pistol-whip the Red Wings right now, but I doubt that Ken Holland's going to be looking to move his young players because of it.

I think it's probably safer to say that Holland is looking at taking that potential beating now so Nyquist and Tatar and Brendan Smith and the rest of those boys pull a reversal and kick the poop out of the Bruins in a year or two

I think you can look at Akeson there, and hope he'd do well, and I like the kid's game a lot. But I am thinking more that you take a piece like Scott Laughton and move him and get some real value back to put over there.

They have some chips to play, still. With MacDonald signed, you could just go with Ghost next year, and take a harder look at your forwards, because they could use some strengthening

Again: I probably wouldn't have done the MacDonald deal like that. But at the same time, it absolutely gives them some options for next year

Game 4 can't come fast enough. We're pretty anxious to play them again. They're nothing special. We're a pretty damn good hockey team too. We're not shying away from anything. We're in this series to win the Stanley Cup, and they're in our way to win it.

— Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson said after his team's loss to the Penguins in Game 3 of their Round 1 Stanley Cup Playoffs series

I LOVE THIS

I probably wouldn't move Coburn, but depending on the deal, you probably could...it really would depend on the deal and what else you did in the offseason, but you could say "(frank) it" and bring Alt and Ghost up here and tell them to,sink or swim

I wish they could upgrade Hartnell :/ Has some good games still, but can't help but feel he holds Fraude and Jake back sometimes

I'd only move Coburn if you're getting a significantly better defenseman back, and I'd move him only assuming the team giving up a significant defenseman would want a decent one back in a deal.

In a series, like this, he probably does; not because he is a horrible player, but because McDonagh and Girardi skate so well. They can shade Giroux and Voracek knowing that they can recover on Hartnell

I heard him saying they needed to be better defensively. Apparently he was looking to win 1-0.

Agreed -- there's only a couple deals out there that would be worth looking at for Coburn, but there might be three or four that make sense, if you decided to go that route

I think Chief's doing his best to roll four, thinking this series might go long.

Have a feeling he's gonna ride the horses hard next game

Think that is the next stage of Frick's career: highly paid defensive specialist

I don't think I've ever known who is Frick and who is Frack Those guys still playing together in meaningful games is still funny to me
