I would not feel bad if any bruin gets cooke'd or jones'ed in the future

Hmmmmmm. They don't play for boston. And one ended a star players career, that happened to play of boston. Interesting way to drive the point home.

And even so. I have never wished injury to Cooke. An ass beating but injury....never.

Difference of opinion I guess.

That was the only one I saw posted. If there is more to justify injury and I missed it I'm sorry. (Sarcasm)

I totally understand why you feel that way. Megna has taken Mason out for the playoffs, and I wanted vengeance when it occurred, too. Different animal, I know. Megna's play was just a little dirty while Lucic's was a flat out assault. Still, I get why you want revenge.

However, we're trying to move past players doling out illegal retribution. Having Bert hand out justice only perpetuates the problem we're having in hockey. The league has to get their act together. It's on THEM.

The guidelines for proper punishment were pretty much laid out by BF Skinner and others. There are a few variations, but they all agree on this.

1) Punishment should be given immediately after the infraction, and if possible while caught in the act.
- anyone that has trained a dog is familiar with this one

2) The punishment should be just enough to get the point across so that they know you mean business.
-This doesn't mean get off lightly. It just means you have to keep them from fearing/hating/resenting you.
-In this list, this one applies the least to the scenario

and finally the one the NHL doesn't get -

3) The punishment should be constant as infractions are committed. If you punish hard here, and ignore in other instances, it WILL NOT SINK IN. Every time. Everyone. No exceptions.
-This means all players should be treated equally for goonish actions. If you are a repeat offender, yeah, the punishment can be elevated, but no letting first-timers off regardless if they are 4th liners or 1st liners.

It's seen by us all that there are a few players that will take cheap shots and nothing is done. Then when they finally come down on them, they are considered first-time offenders when in fact THIS IS NOT THE CASE. They've been problems for awhile. A slap on the wrist is a joke. There are a lot of people that seem to get away with things and it makes the game needlessly dangerous. I'm not speaking against legal, bone-crushing hits. Have at it! I'm against stick infractions like this, as well as others that involve hits to the head and/or dangerously propelling players into the boards head first resulting in injury. That has no room in the sport.

Sometimes scary checks that result in concussions/injuries happen, but others can be avoided. He coulda puled up. We can all rattle off instances.

The league needs consistency. That's all. It would make so many fans happy.

By the way, a gold star to whoever read that whole crap rant.

Excellent post. Lucic is definitely in need of some behaviour modification.

This is nothing less than INTENT TO INJURE!! Why allow this to go unpunished? 5k?? that's chump change for him! Which MORON in the league office is responsible for this preposterous decision? I have no previous animosity against this player, but this action should be severely penalized! This is not hockey!

It was a cheap shot, and he got off easy with a 5K fine.

Quenneville grabs own balls : 25000$
Lucic tries to castrate opponent : 5000$

Makes perfect sense...

Typical NHL. More concerned with protecting and covering up for their inept officials than protecting players and disciplining violence.

I think fans are starting to lose respect for NHL.
This bias for the Bruins is totally getting out of control.
He SHOULD have been suspended at least for one game.

You have to suspend someone for that. $5k fines to pro athletes is only a slap on the wrist, it's not a strong enough deterrent to change behavior.

Will it be enough for Lucic to get the message ? Probably not.Been a lot of dirty hits so far in this early playoff season, the league could send a message before someone gets seriously injured but I suppose they belive plane crashes sell tickets and brings attention to the league.

I was just thinking if God forbid that was Kaleta, or Scott, NHL would have suspended them for at least 5 games, and that Rat in NBCSN studio ( Mike Milbury) would have ripped us in half!
This BS bias is getting pathetic.

You could be right.
IDK, NHL is really pushing its luck with the Bruins.
Fans are not stupid, we all notice everything that happens on the ice, and off the ice.

It's just going to fire up the Red Wings. The kids are going to skate circles around Lucic's line. Hate those chumps.

I'd rather be on the receiving end of a Lucic circumcision than go crying to the League for anything. Screw the League. Screw the refs. Screw the Bruins. Lets play some hockey and settle it on the ice. GOOOOOOOOOOO WINGS!!!

Jacobs owns Bettman... Surprised they didn't suspend DeyKuiser for DIVING.

If this league wants to be taken seriously they have to stop cowering to the money.

Disgraceful.
