That did piss me off watching Toews talking to Backes when the guy had no right even trying to stand up!

Love this sh!t, it's playoff hockey! Seabrook should have been giving this series for his suspension. It's nice to have a rooting interest (like the Blues), I was pissed Saturday afternoon after that hit. Game on tonight, even though St. Louis doesn't retaliate tonight, win one game in Chicago?

It was likely Keith, by the way. In the audio when someone starts chirping Toews' mouth is closed. It's been all over both the Blues and Hawks threads.

Just fwiw.

Too much Talent on Chicago to count them out. I still think this series goes the distance but I'm hoping the Blues advance.

Yea Keith is the one that said "Wakey Wakey Backes" (cringed typing that) but I think Toews might have said something as well though probably not on that level.

Panthers don't have enough scoring, if they are smart the pick will be Reinhart.

Backes has always played with an edge to his game. He's laid some pretty nasty hits himself. That doesn't excuse what Seabrook did, because it was definitely stupid. But to say Toews is a scumbag for trashtalking is jumping off the deep end IMO.
- HonkFortheGoose

I disagree. When fans cheer when an opposing team's player is obviously hurt we all agree they are acting like scumbags. If Toews said 'Wakey wakey' to an obviously concussed Backes then he was acting like a scumbag.

Like, it's a mean thing to say yes. But even so it doesn't have much impact on my impression of either player.

So granting that point, it doesn't appear he in fact said that.

I think people are forgetting that these two teams play each other a lot during the regular season. They just really don't like each other. I'm sure things were said in the heat of the moment. It doesn't make them right, but we probably shouldn't crucify them for it either.

Ekblad brings scoring also. Kid has a cannon of a shot. They could take him and conceivably get better scoring and defense. I'm hoping that's what they are thinking as well.

I'd be more pissed at him for his stickwork in this series than running his mouth.

Exactly. I'm willing to bet anything that when we're a playoff team again and our 1st round opponent is Toronto or Montreal that something similar will happen with us. I really only classify a player a true scumbag when they are consistently dirty players or when they take what should be left on the ice, off the ice.

The bigger question is how Keith hasn't been penalized for tomahawking guys. Man he has swung some viscous lumber the first two games. He's got his stick up over his head on some of those chops.

Or when they cup shot an unsuspecting player as they skate away?

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the size of the media market in Bost... oop I mean Chicago.

Fun fact: I'd still love to have Duncan Keith on my team. I'd be all "I'd prefer he cut out the stickwork, but..."

Not sure what he said, but watching it live - Toews was saying something to Backes when the trainer was trying to old him up?

The reason teams like Boston and Chicago "get all the calls" is because they are good. Good teams get the benefit of the doubt more than they should. Go back to 2006 and 2007, and there are plenty of other fans (and teams) complaining that the Sabres got favorable treatment from the officials. That's how this sport goes.

@cotsonika: As for the "wakey, wakey," Toews said fans don't hear most of what is said on the ice. It's hard not to regret some things.

Does understand difference between trashing talking a conscious opponent and unconscious one? Does Toews regret it?

@cotsonika: Toews said Backes asked him to fight, and that's why he was jawing at him.

Soo nothing actually happened with McKinnon yet backes is a scumbag for that???? Your in the nhl you are a peer so let's not age discriminate.
- joshs

I never understood that line of thinking either. A difference maker is a difference maker whether he's age 18 or age 38. If you're playing the "you run my star, then I'll run yours" game, age shouldn't be a factor.

All this being said, this series isn't over, even with Seabrook out. It was my contention from the beginning that the home team is going to win every game this series, and I still stand by it.
