The general consensus out west is that Backes may or may not have had it coming to him. He did try to jump an 18 year old (backes did). Maybe Toews shouldn't have said anything but I think it was more of an impulse move than anything else, I don't think it's a reflection of his character.

Seabrooks late hit and trash talk caused him to justly get a 3 game suspension and cost his team probably the playoffs. I think the nhl made the right call on this one. I'm still fumming about the lucic $5000 fine.

Backes has always played with an edge to his game. He's laid some pretty nasty hits himself. That doesn't excuse what Seabrook did, because it was definitely stupid. But to say Toews is a scumbag for trashtalking is jumping off the deep end IMO.

Playoffs in general make everyone a bit edgy but a series like this one, you'll probably end up doing something scumbagish just because of the personnel and the intensity.

I'm not saying he's anything I'm just saying a lot of people out west seem to think Backes had it coming, which is why some players may make impulse choices when they see him hurt. It's like if we saw Lucic get stapled by hit to the boards. Obviously you'd hope he's okay but I bet in that moment most of us would be pretty (frank)ing happy.
