What you are forgetting is if this series goes to a game 6 Seabrook is back while Backes is probably still concussed and out of the series.

Backes being out is far worse for STL because of the time table.

- ImThatGuy

Seabrook won't see any more playoff action. Hawk's will be done in 3 more games.

Hopefully Backes is back by the next round.

At first thought I thought this was going to hurt the Blues more. Then I talked myself out of it, missing a guy who can play 25 plus minutes on the blue line is a big deal as well. I think you are right its pretty much an even race on who is going to miss more.
- Stripes77

Both are big components, at times Seabrooke is their best dman. But the Hawks are deeper on defense than the Blues are up front. This is still much worse for STL, in my opinion.

I wouldn't count the Hawks out yet. The Detroit series last year is the perfect example of why.

The Blues just getting Steen back was huge. It will lessen the blow of Backes a little bit but its going to be tough for both teams.

I wonuldnt either now that the Blues are missing the tone setter and their captain. I would not be surprised to see people taking shots at Toews all game long in game 3.

If you knock him out for the series and you are only going to get 2-3 games, its well worth it.

I think the NHL in general doesn't want suspensions to end up carrying over to the following season. That's why I think he got 3 games. They probably figure that Chicago will get at least 1 win at home, so that extends the series to 5 games.

That is their problem, They are too afraid to make a statement. Sure you can suspend Raffi Torres types all season long, but when it comes to an impact/star player they dont want to take him out of the game. Which is an absolute joke.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but I think that's why they gave him 3.

How about Quick, Stats wise being the worst goalie in the playoffs.

15th and 16 in SV% and GAA.

the nhl has to get head shots out of the game. professional athletes accept that there are bodily risks that go along with being a well paid professional athlete living their dream. its acceptable to need surgery to repair knees, shoulders, and hips. its acceptable to expect more aches and pains in middle age than somebody that works a desk job. the neurological complications from concussions are not part of the deal. look at the football players in their 30s and 40s that are shooting themselves because they cant remember their kids names. im all for good, hard hitting, playoff hockey, but its short sighted for the league to allow these hits to the head. take it out of the game now, while its the right thing to do, instead of a few years from now when the class action lawsuits with billion dollar settlements are the end result.

I think Sbroads will agree he always thought Quick was overrated. I agree. Just another reason why Miller should have been the #1 goalie at the Olympics. His over aggressive style and awful rebound control is killing them

What does Toews have to do with it? He didn't hit Backes, Seabrook did.

I agree. The hit was cheap. The discussion that was going on was whether Seabrook or Backes was more of a loss to their team.

I think it's about equal to be honest. But that was a really stupid hit by Seabrook. It's a shame too, he's actually a really good player. Not quite sure what he was thinking there.

Not to change the subject but I'm having a debate in Stewie's blog with a Habs fan...did you know as an official you can decided the outcome of a play based on how a goalie "typically plays"?

His theory Price is typically a positionally sound goalie and isn't a flopper so the correct call was made on the no goal call. I really can't make this up
