guess i dont think of it that way.

always thought of tanking on purpose as trying to lose. always thought of rebuilding as not attempting to go out and sign expensive free agents to accomplish something you can't.

- Putzfrau

Whats the objective of "rebuilding" and specifically,"rebuilding through the draft"? Which both of our GM's, Regier and Murray, have openly commented about.

To replace your "core" players by selecting from the elite crop of talent at the top of the draft (either the very top -- top 5, or over the entirety of the draft, the top 60 players). The Sabres intentionally stripped their team of all veteran talent, and stockpiled on draft picks in that range.

Rebuilding is tanking.

I haven't heard or seen any through the media here about him in a while. Makarov has been playing great.

He needs surgery. 4-6 months

Somebody mentioned Spezza earlier, good player he's just a skating MASH unit. Let him go to the Leafs.

fair enough.

i just personally always thought of tanking as making a conscious effort in every game of trying to lose.

i do understand what you are saying tho, and it does make sense.

Tanking will never have anything to do with the players. You will never get 20 guys to lose on purpose in unison. Sports are a hobby to fans, but they are jobs to the players. You think the players care about getting a #1 overall pick so that guy can come in and take their job?

A player like that (high cap hit 7mil, low salary 4mil) is who they will go after.

which is why i never thought teams "tanked on purpose".

like i said tho, i understand what you are saying and it makes sense. i suppose tanking just has an inherent negative connotation, and "rebuilding" is, IMO, a necessary part of a teams evolution every now and then.

by your definition the sabres are absolutely tanking, and i'm 100% okay with that.

“When you tear it down, it doesn’t happen overnight,” Murray said. “I want to rebuild here properly, which takes time. But it doesn’t have to take years.”

This quote tells you all you need to know.

I saw the movie "Draft Day" today.
I thought it was pretty good.
Our Bills were in it for a few minutes, and Russ Brandon had a brief appearance as well.

It was originally supposed to be the Bills as the featured team. But they got better tax breaks in Ohio.

Sharks absolutely lighting it up.

Best looking team right now IMO. Making a very good kings team look lost.

No, i've already mentioned before why I know. Just like I posted a few weeks ago that changes were coming in the coaching staff and players, coaches are gone and players are next.
- SABRES 89

I respect that you have a source that a relative knows but we all knew there were changes coming to the coaching staff and players. The tank might have been on with Darcy but Murray is going to sign a couple 3rd or 4th line FA this offseason, make some trades for younger players and this team will still be in the running for pick 1 or 2 next year. Murray would have to be an idiot to put some bandaids on the team this offseason, compete for 10th or 11th in the conference when there are players like McDavid and Eichel to be had.

He hasn't looked be good but I don't know who the sharks can't put 6 on right now.

If they continue this type of play the cup is there's. No one is playing like that right now.

LA will be an interesting team to watch this off season. They made moves that turned them into cup champs and then conf. finalists but it looks like it's come full circle. They've got some tough contracts on that team (not unlike Vancouver). I'll be interested to see what they do with a guy like Richards or maybe even Carter/Williams.

They are a good team, drawing the sharks was a nail in the coffin tho.

Honestly I don't think anyone was going to beat them. They are on another level right now. Said it before but I think the sharks right now are playing better than any team I've seen all season.

We'll see what happens
Quick has been bad. I'm not giving the cup to SJ yet
Still a ways to go

No one,
But it's two games in
Long ways to go

Last year LA was down 2-0 to StL and swept the next 4
Detroit was up on Chicago 3-1

Not that I think LA will come back...
But SJ will have some tough teams up ahead
