Spot on. I don't see the Sabres making a splash in FA this year...maybe a mid /low signing for a 3-4 D-man...possibly a 7-9 forward. No big signing like Callahan that in 3 years the contract will be a boat anchor on the teams cap space. The larger signings come latter in the rebuild to fill gaps not addressed through drafting. I do see the possibility of a trade at the draft though...maybe package an existing player with one of the 2nds or St Louis 1st (if we get it, Go Blues!).

Just because they aren't tanking on purposely doesn't mean this team won't be bad next year. Face it, we've got more holes in the roster than swiss cheese. He could trade for Spezza and sign Callahan and we'd still be a bottom 5 team.
