15 years ago that kind of hit retired lindros and kariya early, that happens to Tavares and how do you feel? Don't be an ass. - Isles_since_6
Im not being an ass.........my opinion differs from yours. That doesnt mean either of us are right. Its hockey.......and yes I remember when Lindros got hit center ice by Scott Stevens. Everyone cheered for the thunderous hit.
Its only recently that the NHL has decided to crack down on hits to the head. Most of my life, those hits were good clean hits.

Hempstead is 100% at fault for the Islanders moving to Brooklyn- 100% at fault. FIVE owners, TWENTY-FIVE years of needing a new building, Nassau did the bare minimum, and Hempstead did nothing. 100% the fault of a community that didn't want their hockey team anymore, and so now it is no longer their hockey team. If I owned the team, I'd have done the same thing. If you want to say Wang is a schmuck because of the hockey-related shenanigans that go on with this franchise, you'll get no argument from me, but the fact that they are moving to Brooklyn isn't his fault- it was basically his last available move to ensure that this team stayed in New York, which is a good thing, unless you're a certain blogger who shall remain brainless. - dcb1
If my memory serves correct, the county offered Wang to re do the coliseum, but Wang wanted a mini city. Regardless of the lighthouse project, the fact is, Wang has checked out, and I use Garth Snow and Jack Capuano as exhibit A, and B. |

what i'm saying is those teams didn't turn it around over night...it was a 4 year process. it was a long time.. yes 20 years is long enough but i can't compare what happened in the mid ninteies to know..they have no bearing.. - Dan Petriw
And Im saying, all of those teams started to rebuild, and 4 years in were relevant. The isles are entering year 8 of this rebuild, and we're talking about who the isles will draft 5th overall.
My point which i guess isnt clear, is that its taking Garth twice the amount of time, and still there is no end in sight. The proof is in the pudding. |

So what, you can target the head if you use the rock hard shoulder pad? What a ridiculous comment - Isles_since_6
Man you guys are acting like its a slow motion game and it was so horrific. The guy came in ALL shoulder. Yes the point of contact was the head........and YES thats not allowed. But do you really think he went in targeting the head.......cause i dont. I think he finished the check. |

We disagree then, which is not surprising. Btw, back when those hits were legal, shoulder pads didn't have the armored caps on them and the players were a lot smaller on average. |

It's hockey.....he wasn't head hunting. He caught him and he'll get a game or two. Lets not act like it was that vicious cause it wasn't |

Again, I disagree. He left his feet and went head hunting with his shoulder. Backes isn't 5'10, he targeted the head. You're on here a fair amount and I think I've agreed with your opinion once. This was a cheap shot. There was no attempt to knock him off the puck, it was long gone. This was an attempt to injure and again, how would you feel if jt was hit this way? This was not a hockey play gone wrong it was a cheap shot that has cost the blues their top center and captain. He deserves a suspension and he'll get one. |

He'll get suspended. But for a guy who's a clean player I chalk it up as finishing his check. I don't believe he deliberately was looking to concuss Backes. It's the playoffs ....guys play hard. I honestly don't have a huge problem with the hit. Seabrook isn't a dirty player.....things happen |

Wang is not the only owner we have had who has had a problem with these people. Pickett said we needed a building in 1991. Other than tell him he could rebuild the building, 100% at his expense, with no way of producing adequate revenue to compensate him, the Town and the County did nothing, except complain about everything that anyone suggested. Wang proposed something no one liked, so he changed his plan, at least twice. Nothing was ever good enough for them- we can't have a tower, if we build condos, black people might move in, why do we need a baseball stadium, etc. Hempstead and Nassau are good at complaining, and nothing else, and they got what they deserved as a result- nothing. He put up with them for a lot longer than I would have- than ANYONE would have, because he DID want to keep the team on Long Island. I'd have been talking to the Mets owners about the Shea location after they yanked my chain the first time- no hesitation. |

Those other teams you speak of.... spend 15 to 20 million more on their players.
Isles are an NHL team with an AHL salary cap.
Until the Isles spend at least another 10 million dollars a year... it will be hard to win anything.
Wang is the problem... |

I don't think his intent was to hurt him the way he did.
The problem was he wasn't expecting the hit, and was bent over a bit.
Everything happens so fast in hockey... plus it is the playoffs. Intensity is turned up a notch.
He will be suspended... but I think he just wanted to lay a clean hard hit.
I like it!!!

Yes wang is the problem, but so is Garth. I would be embarrassed to sit there and pretend I'm a GM heading into year 8 |

No GM in the current NHL could make this work with the restrictions in place.
Need new owner... changes will be made then.

When you spend what little money you have to spend on garbage is when it becomes snows fault. Wang is cheap but snow is incompetent. Lethal combination for an nhl team. |

The problem is Wang.... no money, no players.
Sure Snow has made a few mistakes... made a few good pickups too.
It seems everything is @ a standstill until the team is sold.
So next year will be the same roster... just a veteran goalie added.
Unless Nabby comes back again.
Then no changes.
