Snow tried for Schneider and the deal almost happened, the issue was that Vancouver coveted Bo Horvat soooo much that the deal w/Devils made more sense for them bc Vancouver didn't think Horvat would be available at 15. So in hindsight we almost had a chance.

Right and rather than give up that first for renting vanek snow coulda thrown in that first rounder and landed Schneider. It's called getting something done when you need to. Clearly Garth cannot.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here but I'd package strome for a top tier dman. Considering how andres lee and Brock Nelson are really blossoming, and I like their size up front.

They didn't give up last years 1st for Vanek, it was this years or nexts...
They tried at the draft to land Schneider w/last years 1st, not this years plus not giving up 2 1st's either, I def wouldn't have given up 2 1st's.

You're missing my point. You say you wouldn't have given up two first rounders but the isles are without the vaneks first round pick for nothing. I'm aware that its a conditional pick for this year or next. I'm suggesting that instead of giving away the first round pick for nothing(vanek) Garth coulda used it to land a legimiate franchise goalie.

Looks to me like the isles woulda been better off overspending on Schneider.

I'd prefer the size also and wouldn't mind trading Strome but it has to be someone of Star to Elite type of player.

Snow had to find a legitimate STAR W for JT, for what he gave up for Vanek, I felt Snow missed the boat by not acquiring someone w/a longer contract not a player w/an expiring one. I didn't mind the trade bc of who it was, but mind the fact that Vanek was not signing here. I would do that trade again today. So it wasn't for nothing, just that Snow thought he could resign him.
2nd - No team was really trading away a franchise G, problem is that Vancouver's GM messed up big time and Devils capitalized, if Horvat was not high on Vancouver's list and other teams, isles might have had Schneider, but its the past and we don't.

The vanek trade was the third Hail Mary pass snow threw that didn't connect. First it was Ryan smyth, then Erhoff, and now Vanek. The glaring need was an upgrade on defense and a starting goalie. Trading a 30 goal scorer for another 30 goal scorer on paper didnt address the problem. For the record I do believe vanek was an upgrade over moulson but for the sake of discussion that did not address the problem.

Cory Schneider was up for grabs and Garth again dropped the ball.

Smyth trade was for nobodies who never panned out, plus Isles were trying to get back there identity. Erhoff was a gamble for a late draft pick which Snow recouped by trading him to Buffalo, so honestly I don't compare the 2 w/the Vanek trade.

Actually I read somewhere yesterday that snow had a deal in the works for a goalie but the team asked for Brock Nelson

boy am I glad he turned that down

In the early part of the season Snow offered Brock, Pulock & picks for Miller & Vanek. Thankfully Miller rejected it!!!

Now after seeing Brock Nelson thru the season and if Snow tried to bring in G by trade deadline, of course teams will ask for Isles top prospects.

I'm aware of what went down. My point was that snow keeps trading for guys who he cannot sign. It doesn't matter the reason it's a prime example of on the job training. I for one am sick and tired of this guy.

Gotcha now.... Whether its on the job training or whatever, this team has not been relevant/appealing to any FA regardless

At the risk of stating the obvious, the fact that Garth Snow and Jack Capuano still have jobs is indicative of wang "checking out". This team screams of mismanagement yet it's status quo for another year. Wang cannot sell fast enough.

Fair enough but the trades are atrocious. This past season would have gotten any other GM fired. Heck Burkey didn't last more than 4 seasons and got canned. Dean Lombardi interviewed for the isles job and took the kings to the cup and won in 4 years. The isles are now entering the 8th year of Garth Snow and we're all talking about potential 5th picks???

If you're a potential buyer the franchise has alot of young assets, low salary base, established fan base in the top media market and potential to build atop team with some key additions.

Wang is a major issue for being an owner, Snow could not build a team properly.

I blame Kate Murray and co more than Charles. No reason for Charles to pay for a building he does not own.

Hempstead and Nassau County are getting what they deserve in the fall of 2015. Too f***ing bad- they had 25 years to do something about the situation, and they repeatedly did nothing but sabotage everything that every owner tried to do to get a building done. Everyone who is going to whine about having to go to Brooklyn needs to remember that.

That's not entirely accurate. The problem was wang wanted a mini city and the Town of Hempstead did not, and did not offer a viable counter proposal- did not offer any proposal of any kind, for 25 years. This had nothing to do with an arena.

This isles situation reminds me when milbury was at the end of his tenure. I remember thinking "how could this guy still have a job". I think the exact same thing with regards to snow and capuano. There is zero evidence to support the employe met of these two. The only explanation is Wang really wants out and is just letting things be status quo until he is officially out.
- kindlyrick

Snow perhaps, but I'm 100% certain that's THE reason Capuano is still here. Guaranteed, as far as I'm concerned. Doesn't want to spend one extra dime than he has to on anything.

Bottom line. Wang tried to play hardball with politicians and lost. It's that same dictatorship mentality that had smith and lafontaine walk away. This guy is a maniac...

nino was offered in that deal as well...IMO the 15th pick and nino was more than enough... i would trade Strome..but for only about 5 defensman in the league
