My theory is ice a cup contender or fall to bottom 5, otherwise you live in hockey limbo. |

With the parity in today's NHL you can ice a top eight (out of 30 teams) and compete for the cup. That said, I want change, but not silly poop, I want meaningful change. |

Now that is a challenge with all these NTCs . Edler Kesler Bieksa have all come out and said they don't want to go anywhere. I can't see the two local boys Hamhuis or Garrison waiving . I think Burrows wants to stay , so that leaves Higgins and Hansen , what could you get for them that would change this team?
This is where Torts comes in as a cleaner. The only ones without a NTC that could bring back a decent return would be Kassian Tanev or the 6 th overall.
So realistically what significant changes can anyone really expect?
9 current NTC /NMC on this roster for the next 4 years

You're not understanding how a NTC works; if a team says they want to make changes and you're one of them, it simply gives them a choice of where they'd like to go. If the team really is prepared to move on without said player, and they want no part if it, they can be waived.
Kesler has a NTC but was open to moving to a select number of teams, other players can do the same. It's much easier for the new GM as he didn't hand out those NTC's. The Sedins are the only players that cannot be moved or waived under any circumstances. NMC! |

This kid Pouliot looks like Morgan Reilly. He would be like getting a top 6 forward. great skater sees the whole ice. pairs nicely with Cedarholm also.
It think Pouliot Sutter and a first for Kesler would be a good move for Canucks. |

For Edler , the Oilers would give up Gagner, a 2nd and mid level D prospect like Martin Gernat. Take it or leave it, the Oilers and their league worst Defense wouldn't offer more. - Jeropotato
I think Gagner just needs a change of scenery to get his career back on track. He's played close to 8 NHL seasons and he's ONLY 24 years old, for @#$@ sakes. And unfortunately it's all been on fairly lousy teams. He's had the misfortune of being with the Oil during arguably their worst historical period, and that is not going to do much for a player's growth, development, and confidence. That type of dynamic is precisely what stalls or even destroys young players careers.
Although I wouldn't do the trade you proposed, I wouldn't mind if Gagner was part of a larger deal (and also involve further or somewhat better quality assets). And especially given that Gagner's value (at least perception wise) is at its lowest. Of course I suppose that can be said of Edler as well. However, most managers value defenseman quite a bit higher, and Edler has all the physical tools ( and yes, EVEN talent ) I think he, too, just needs a change of scenery. It's apparent he has very little confidence. |

Kesler vetoed CBJ and a few other teams this year. If I am Hamhuis and the new GM comes up to me and says we want to move you , I say no thanks I like Vancouver I have family here and I took less money to play here. Same with Garrison.
I don't see where waiving Edler for nothing is better than having him on the roster.
If you waive Burrows then you have a 3.6 mil cap hit on the Canucks and a 4.5 mil player on the Comets.
I don't see the new GM forcing NTCs to waive for at least another year. |

Well, I guess the Canucks will just have to go out and get that better deal, I'm sure the phone will be ringin off the hook for the guy.

Gagner doesn't make any team better, he is like Schroeder
Hamhuis and the rest of the core already think they are playing for a contender. |

How many 8 point games at the NHL does Schroeder have? Gagner is a victim of playing in Edmonton, I'd take him over Schroeder any day of the week. |

You're going to give up on a player who is 24, who has played on a miserable team for what seems like eternity? (at least in hockey years) A guy who was drafted sixth way back when he was 18. His career started very well and there was much talk of great potential and promise, as he's always had a very good skill set and offensive abilities, and it's not like he's a smurf either. I would think it's very difficult to feel much enthusiasm/hope year after year when you've been on a perennial non-contender. It's reasonable to assume something like that would effect a player's performance and growth/progress.
Again, I feel a change of scenery for him (and Edler) would make a huge difference and revitalize/revive their careers. |

I am not going to give up on a 24 yr old for another team because I was never on board with him.
He would never be part of my roster. |
