If it was the 30 and done then maybe. But to follow up with 15 in 48 not a fluke.
And 30 in the NHL isn't easy to do. - honesthockey
Kulemin, Hornqvist, Grabovski, Jussi Jokinen, Samuelsson, Cheechoo, Penner, Stafford, Frolov, Booth, Setoguchi, Derek Roy, Huselius, Jason Blake...
There are a lot of guys out there who scored 30 (or close to 30 or even more) but weren't able to have those type of numbers consistently or in some cases ever again. |

Agreed. But Clarkson came back with 15 in 48 so what a 26 goal pace. Pretty good. How many on your list scored 15 in the shortened season?
How many 30 goal seasons for Getzlaf? Giroux? |

Yep and he admitted to his mistakes like a man.
See Randy if you'd only have listened, you'd be still playing today. - honesthockey
And yet you don't. They're not your oversoght, but the oversight of others. Your statement of fact was wrong because Carlyle made a mistake.

Dustin Penner once had 32 followed by 21 goals in 62 games but look at him now.
You think Getzlaf and Giroux are a fair comparisons? Both of those guys are nearly career point per game playmakers. C'mon. |

Dustin Penner? And.....Penner had 32 points in 49 games for Anaheim. Not bad at all.
Brought up Giroux and Getzlaf as an indication of how difficult 30 is. But hey take it as you will. |

Penner, like Clarkson, was capable of scoring 30 goals one year, followed it up with 20 something goals and has been terrible ever since. Also, much like Clarkson, Penner was the benefactor of playing with Getzlaf and Perry this year (much like Clarkson benefited from playing with Kovalchuk) but once he was taken away from those better players, he sucked again.
Giroux and Getzlaf can score but their primary function is to be the playmakers as you can see their assist totals over the years are far greater than their goal totals. They are pass first, shoot second type players so naturally, their goal totals are going to hit 30 less frequently. Clarkson doesn't do either anymore. |

You're wrong because Randy made a decision, and you had previously made a statement that was contradictory to his choice. The fact that he chose differently to you does not mean that he made a mistake, especially when the bar by which we judge such statements is reality |

So it was a bad thing to play Penner with Getzlaf and Perry? Or Clarkson with Kovalchuk? If they didn't produce that would be a bad thing but they did.
Clarkson had an off year. I'll give him another before I'll say he's done. |
