True, I think looking at the game from my perspective, biggest issue for the Flyers was there were no quick outlet passes out of the D zone to break up our forecheck. They get that straightened out, whole dynamic of the game changes.

Absolutely. Flyers forwards have to come back deep in support. Defenseman have to get to the puck quicker and move it quicker. There was way too much skating room for the Rangers through the neutral zone. Allowed them too much speed to get on the Flyers defense. I think that resistance should be in layers. In all 3 zones. Can't be one easy pass for the Ranger and out they go with easy access to the Flyers end

Many will say the MSG losing streak is the problem. But to me that loss last night mirrored a lot of Flyers losses this Season. For the same reasons. But I've seen this team move the puck against teams better then the Rangers. And against very good skating and hard forechecking teams. If the Flyers play the way they're capable of. Things will be much different.

The ice probably plays a role in why the Flyers struggle at MSG. It's some of the worst ice throughout the league.

It's the same ice for both teams. Rangers didn't seem to have any issue with it, from what I saw.

Interesting article about ice time and match ups for the Flyers last night. A little strange the way Berube did things.

Stralman & Staal were eating a load of ice and looked very effective. I would love it if the Flyers created the room to add Stralman this summer. Righty shot, decent with puck, good skater.

It doesn't help when the Flyers start trying all that fancy crap, that's for sure. Got to play more North-South at MSG and against the Rangers anyhow

You would think they knew this going into the game. Everyone in the world knows what they need to do. Except them, apparently.

I still can't get over 15 shots in game 1 of the playoffs.

I'm more concerned about the Rangers controlling the pace. It all comes out of that, the low shot totals, the overall poor play, the inability to sustain pressure in the zone...all due to not being able to break the forecheck

Stralman is quietly our most improved player over the past couple seasons. He's an excellent defenseman that's unfortunately (for us) priced his way out of Manhattan. He rejected a $9M/3 year deal earlier this season and looks like he will be a salary cap casualty, although there was a rumor that he might want to return to Sweden.

Staal often gets overlooked too. As far as I'm concerned, he's a bonafide #1 defenseman who can play 25+ mins a night shutting down the Crosby's and the Ovechkin's and the Perry's of the league night in and night out just as well as McDonagh and Girardi.

I recall reading that, forget where.

Every game I have seen him this year, he's been nothing but solid and smart. Looked great last night, too

It amazed me to see how many Rangers were able to find wide open ice and get a decent shot off. Flyers just seemed incapable of keeping up with the pace of the game.

Sure the Rangers looked like a pretty fast team last night, but really the Flyers made them look a lot faster than they are.

Didn't know this, I could see a better offer coming his way in the summer.

Where did Kate Upton go?
You changed her?

Puck support was really poor, the Ranger defense would have looked just as shaky if the forwards didn't come back for support.

He's right up there with Niskanen in my opinion as one of the top younger free agent defenseman. Dude's rock solid, right handed (which seems to be at a premium in the NHL), and is a good puck mover. He can log 20 mins a night effectively. He might benefit from playing with Staal a bit though, not sure he'd lockdown the best forwards in the league if he had a lesser partner.

That's what happens when an opposing team forechecks aggressively and intelligently. They got on the Flyers, pressed the defensemen with the puck, then got the Flyers chasing them in the defensive zone.

Flyers wasted a TON of energy spinning their wheels last night. That has to stop. The defensemen have to beat the Rangers forwards to the puck and the forward have to give them a simple, smart outlet to start the rush up ice, before the Rangers can get settled in the neutral zone. Puck support is crucial against a team like NY

Those slow developing 2 on 2's are death vs the Rangers. Got to breakout quickly and do it as straight forward as possible. the more time wasted going side to side, the more time the Rangers can attack you and force turnovers.

EDIT: Another factor, the Flyers have to stop sagging and giving the Rangers easy entries to the offensive zone. Coburn and Timonen are really the only two that are really good at this. If MacDonald was a bit more effective at stepping up to stop zone entries, I'd have less issue with his deal.

I agree, he's actually my first choice, he plays a solid all around game, and he's physical.

The mod should have made an exception, (we are talking "Upton")

I figured mine was going too far since she's a porn star. Although, I will say this. The NHL has Ice Girls now. And I get adds with worse stuff than what we had as avatars on this darn site.

But that is google or something, not hockeybuzz. I don't understand how online ad's work anymore.
