this has generally been the case with every game he's played this season. they don't give him any goal support. i feel for the guy. he's playing his heart out.

- hammarby31

I agree. I've said it many times this year but goaltending is rarely if ever the reason we lose. I haven't felt this confident in our tenders situation in a long time. Ray played well enough to win but 15 (frank)ing shots will not get it done. It's embarrassing really.

I don't know. Maybe the 400 goals he scored. And it is not like Giroux can't take draws and then move to the wing after. He can also be a playmaker from the wing. I think your underestimating his skill level by thinking he couldn't be a playmaker just because he is on the wing.

I understand Vinny isn't the old Vinny. Not naive but he has a proven track record and by moving him to center keeps him more comfortable then on the wing like they tried before. Also with G on the wing it limits his d resoniblity a little. I know Vinny isn't a selke trophy forward but is a big body and I think this allows for a better use of assets throughout the lineup up front

- J35Bacher

No way I move my best center to wing for a guy who has been terrible for 90% of the season.

I dont understand why we need to keep trying to accommodate VL. If he's so good, he should be able to fit in different places. He shouldn't look completely lost at wing. Somehow, guys like Raffl have had success on every line and in every position.

VL struggled last night because the Rangers don't line match and he was forced to play against bonafide talent instead of 4th liners like he's been seeing recently.

BTW how about Ryan "All-World Norris" McDonagh schooling Sean "Wouldn't Trade Him For Any Player In The League" Couturier

Besides that one play, Couts was a frickin beast though. Dudes like a mule.

oh no ones looking? let me cross check the (frank) out of a superstar. oh were in a corner, yeah i know the pucks gone but i just cant refuse an extra whack at his hands. okay okay i know the whistle blew already, but how does my glove taste?

i understand the argument people make about superstars getting the occasional weaker call, but often times it is more than canceled out by the abuse they take that goes unaccounted for.

How about Hartnell taking out McDonagh then setting up the lone goal.

I like Brayden Schenn going forward, depending on what kind of contract he will seek. He doesn't deserve a huge pay day.

Luke Schenn... I think if he wasn't the 'piece' coming back from trading JVR, he wouldn't be here next year. Youth or whatever, he is far too often chasing the play and would not surprise me at all to see Gill come in and outplay him.

There is no excuse for him having played as much as he did last night. A 6th d-man, and doing a pretty piss poor job at it. In the minority, but I'm ready to move on from him. Have been for a while. Get the notion that you don't want to move him now after giving up a solid piece in JVR for him but he isn't a piece to keep going forward in my eyes.

I would rather see Gill or Guss in his spot.

Coburn/MacD
Streit/Timonen
Grossman/Gill (meh not a fan of this)

Gill/Gus?

Hell, you just might -- I don't know that Chief's coming back with every single guy who played last night, and you know that Gill and Gus have played within the last 7 days
- AllInForFlyers

Haha I have my players who I think shouldn't be here long term. Luke Schenn has been one of them for a long time now.

I really do believe if he wasn't 'that' guy they got in return for JVR, he wouldn't be looked at in such a positive light.

and 90 percent of it is never even so much as addressed by a ref. and what can they do? yap back and youre "off your game, whining, undisciplined." just skate away and youre a wussy. they cant win. the only recourse they have is to score.

flat out should have been a call on the giroux cross check to the back that happened after the puck went in the net. even if there was no goal, that penalty wasn't getting called. it was as blatant as could be.

To be fair, he would have to be on the ice to play against other forwards.

No way I move L Schenn before Grossmann, and I don't have a problem with Grossmann, it's just they play a similar game and Schenn is younger and healthier. Imagine having neither of those guys on the team...and then imagine a defense that never hits opposing forwards.

That's just players battling. Happens every game. Similar to the Simmonds slashes on his hands in the last regular season meeting. There was a blatant Hartnell no call on a hook a couple minutes before that.
- rangerdanger94

i get that...but i don't see that as battling, when one player is in front looking for the play and the other hammers him in the kidneys. giroux wasn't engaged.

If you're not going to play VL you might as well scratch him and dress a 7th defenseman.

That way you can limit Grossman's ES ice time and let him play sparingly.

I don't think that's the kind of play that will happen continuously because the Rangers are not going to be intimidated.

However that is a classic example of initiating, and retaliation. The Flyers were on the right side of that sequence on the play, and they baited McDonagh into a cross check that could easily be called in another game.

As the game went along, I believe they were too often on the wrong side of that initiate/retaliate equation. Need to play on that edge a bit more, there is no reason to just skate off like robots.

Or having a d-man that can skate and be physical, such players do exist.

It is not just about accomadating Vinny. He struggled because he barely played due to pk and he plays on the fourth line. Was never in any flow. Raffl had regular season success but look nervous and struggled with handling the puck last night. Playoffs are a different animal. Vinny is a shooter so hoving someone like giroux on his wing is not a bad plan.

The cross check on Giroux was after the play. There was no battle. I'm for letting little things go between the whistles but cheap shots after play should be easy to call.

hes good for like one huge hit here and there. other than that, its usually just out of position looking to deliver said hit, and being too slow to do anything that really has a positive impact.

and scuderi has been brutal as well. i think last game he was clocked moving slower than a glacier
