Can't believe someone is going to pay Bolland 5 mil. Sure hope it isn't the Leafs
- ClarksonDavid

someone will be that desperate, or need to the cap hit, he's a really good 3rd line center, and just a decent 2nd line one.

My guess is he takes scraps of a deal just to go back to Chicago.

Trade spezza and wiercoch for shwartz and shattenkirk, and prince for stewart. Send greening to anyone who will take him. Resign hoffman and call up lazar and puemple. Makes for a roster at the cap floor and a solid team over all IMO.

I am not in the trade spezza camp but it sounds like its gonna happen and it sounds like stewart as well

That St. Louis deal is bad for St. Louis.

yeah he is a dime a dozen sort of guy. Most teams have young guys in their system who can make the jump up and contribute the same as he does, but for about 4m less of a cap hit

as much as I like Spezza, I think Eugene sort of screwed him getting ultimate trade value back by announcing the cap range he wants to be at. I don't see teams wanting to part with Top Tier pieces in roster players and prime prospects for someone who seems to be desperate to shed his 7m salary.

I think you guys get low balled for him and get a vanek trade back. 1st rounder, another draft pick or mid level prospect, and a roster player (2nd liner)

Yeah, but if we want him we offer and extra $500K...enough to put ol' Melnyk in the red.

- sensarmy_11

Either Robidas, or if St. Louis is really in the running for Spezza, Bouwmeester HAS to be part of the return.

No to the desperate part. Spezza's salary is an easy 4M in salary (with a 7 cap hit) it's attractive to teams wanting to get to the floor as well as teams 1 center away from top contenders.

really his salary this season is only 4m? Then why the heck are you trying to trade him?

Agreed , that's retarded....why not wait till the deadline? Unless a rebuild is what they're getting at.

that's a smart question my friend.. the answers can be (not limited to) a) pressure from ownership [lack of trust in him being here long term] b) he has become the lighting rod of criticism and so the team needs to make a big change (head coach, GM staying put) c) this is the best and only time to trade him d) change things up e) Sens are deep at center position and need improvements in other areas

Brian Murray let his nephew have Conacher. Waivers allowed Timmy to get him first, you better believe they had a convo. Must mean he owes uncy a favour (expect 1 deal atleast btw the two this summer).

To Buffalo: ----------------------- To Ottawa:
F Shane Prince -------------------- F Chris Stewart
F Colin Greening
Conditional pick

To NY Rangers: ------------------ To Ottawa:
C Jason Spezza ----------------- C Derek Stepan or C Chris Kredier + 1st RD

Ottawa gets a younger, cheaper, more productive two way center on the rise. The rangers get the chance to do something Murray couldn't: Nash & Spezza on the same line. Add St. Louis and you Rangers will be contenders next season.

I am entirely amazed by the sheer naïveté of some of the posts. Some of you guys were attacking me six months ago when I told you what Melnyk was doing and the financial squeeze he was placing on the cash flow of the Senators. Now you have turned the entire matter upside down and saying some of the things that may have been valid last September but are just plain redundant right now.

The horse has already left the gate, the race in the stretch drive and you guys want to debate the start. Melnyk has made his case for a significant supplementary revenue stream (casino), the balance sheets have been sanitized. The next stage involves either the outright sale of the team, the addition of an equity partner or a recapitalization of the Senators by Melnyk himself.

If your a prospective investor the Ottawa Senators are an absolute jewel of a sports franchise. Players are young, talented and there is enormous potential for short term and lasting growth. Budgets and expenditures have been streamlined and all the primary young player assets have been locked into long term reasonable contracts.

For those of you who were defending Melnyk last fall and who are criticizing him now you need to know it is already over. Melnyk has done exactly what he wanted to do. Spezza is just part of the mopping up. Despite what anyone says, none of them are really disappointed by the departure of Alfredsson other than for the impact he had on the ice and a possible playoff shot.

Guys, you got played. Melnyk did exactly what he had to do. But, it is over, stop whining.

Look guys, wake up! How many teams have floated an internal budget number for next year even before the Stanley Cup playoffs begin. Most teams just let it ride and approach it on the basis of we will see what the market dictates.

You need to ask yourself, how is it in Melnyk's interest for this debate to be raging among the faithful. What is his end game?
