Ok I am in... but you have to say what you traded people for too...

I'm sorry, but if you lose bobby Ryan, it will be a bigger loss than the Alfie situation. You lost Alfie and " turned the page" and brought in bobby Ryan. Now if he walks within a 2 years of Alfie, how do you explain what direction you are going in to your gay base or any of your players for that matter?

The goal isn't to win here. It's to save.

So, define loss.

I can see Spezza as an Edmonton target, depending on how they draft (Ekblad) I think they try and move Gagner out.

I've written about this before but I really think Edmonton's had enough of young players _ rebuild _ etc. I think they're obviously not going to move a guy like Hall or RNH, but I think they'd be amenable to a deal to get a guy in right now.

Not surprising at all to hear they are shopping their pick, too.

Would Spezza waive there? No idea.

I'd be (frank)ing furious if we traded Yakupov (presumably ++) for one year of Spezza.

I like Spezza, but that's a move that indicates the Oilers deserve to be where they are for a long long time.

I think the fans are sick of just throwing out another young 18 year old and let them progress hoping for the best.

Yak, Gags, and the 1st I think can all be in play for them draft day in the right deal(s). Spezza, Eberle, Hall as a top line could be enough for him to waive. He could have a solid run with that core

what if it was conditional window of 48 hours to sign him to an extention?

I was thinking something like pick_Yakupov + Spezza.

By the way, I don't think Murray would trade for Yakupov in a million years. Just showing how easy it is though to create a dirt cheap roster.

I get that, but winning makes money would it not? Higher ticket prices, more games, and other income would offset the higher salary if you make it a round or two.

First of all I don't see that as the kind of move the oilers should be making at all

but hypothetically with Spezza in the lineup, he and Perron would be parts of a re-vamped 2nd line. The Oilers seem very happy with Hall-Nuge-Ebs as a line and the results are pretty good.

Not saying all 3 in one trade, but in the right situation any of those 3 parts (Yak being the less likely) could be moved in the right hockey trade.

well, thinking about it more it'd be an insanely Richardish move for Spezza to waive to go here and have no intention of signing in Edmonton, so I might be a little more confident than originally expressed that he'd stick around if he did waive.

Yeah I think the big thing is that Yakupov can't have too much trade value at this point, so it just wouldn't be maximizing value for our assets (but what else is new?)

Wouldn't be surprised to see Edmonton in on Spezza though. Still, we come back to the problem of too many untouchables/ no desireable middle-grade assets. Even Gagner we'd need to pair with something good/retain salary.

I think I should have a summer competition in the spirit of the organization. I think I'll create a three-tier prize system.

Goal is to make the best, absolute cheapest roster possible. Emphasis on the cheap part.

Here's a $53MM one and I even signed a UFA D + traded for Chris Stewart!

Haha. I know it's hard to get rig of an owner, but that's the main problem obviously. Not much point of talking about who you are going to trade spezza or Andy for and what not, if the owners plan is to spend 12 million less than every good team in the NHL. It's simple math

Gags is most likely gone. I don't agree with that necessarily, but I understand the logic in it to an extent and I seem to be in the minority among oilers fans.

I'd love to trade down the 1st, actually. Especially as there's a distinct possibility Winnipeg is going to ship a good talent out, Philadelphia seems primed to make a big deal (Does MacDonald in mean Coburn out?) and other teams will be shuffling cap dollars around. Basically, I hope some other GMs are as stupid as they seem to be ramping towards being

I think MacDonald signing just means Timonen is gone as a Flyer, they will keep onto Coburn, Timonen was making 6m, Mac is now 5m. Replace a Dman and get a 1m savings

Only the best here in O-town.

Traded Spezza, Neil and a 2015 2nd to Nashville for Forsberg and Matt Cullen.

Traded that Matt Cullen, Shane Prince, and a 2014 3rd for Chris Stewart.

Signed Gilbert/Kulemin.

I listened to Leader's press conference a couple days ago and he hinted at the team doing better financially, this year, than they did last year with 4 home playoff games.

He couldn't come right out and say it cause it would ruin Uncle Gene's image of a poor team, but he was saying things cryptically that made it certainly seem so. And that is before these new TV contracts kick in.

They continue to basically steal our ticket money and refuse to put it back into the team.

If the summer follows this plan of 56M and we continue to dump salary without taking any on, I am seriously considering starting a personal boycott of this (frank)ing owner.

As long as people go to the games, they will continue to do that. You can try to tell people not to go to the games and such, but realistically there are a lot of corporate tickets sold with the " claiming them as a buisness expense garbage." If they couldn't do that, it would be interesting to see how many tickets are sold.

No need to spend to the cap next year. The following season is where we will likely see a larger increase.

They went over budget this year. Budget is just a target not a hard unbend able figure. I wouldn't get to hung up on it.
