Not exactly a 'rager' but I liked the Rangers and thought he did a good job there for a few years, especially when the Blueline was young. I just think the transition was tough for the players. Give it another year. It's not like he's Cory Clouston or something . - Jeropotato
Any coach that advocates for players like the Sedins to play dump and chase hockey and block shots is a (frank)!n idiot. Torts knows one style of hockey and will attempt to implement that style into every team he coaches for.
You either haven't watched the Canucks play this season or have gotten seduced by his "tell it like it is" pressers. BTW you wouldn't be alone in that regard. The Van media questions they were throwing at Torts were a joke and had no bearing to what a coach should be discussing as much as a GM. |

DCT How about Luke Richardson as getting a shot at HC. He is fairly offensive minded put a good defensive assistant might be worth a shot. I still like Gulutzan but Richardson might be worth a look. - thundachunk
I'd need to know a lot more about his coaching philosophy to weigh in... Results alone seem decent enough to warrant an interview (for a guy that's just getting used to being THE man). Gotta search high and low for someone with the whole package. I basically want hockey's version of Pete Carroll. |

Just read up on the Apple Pie one, sounds delicious.
Ian MacIntyre is reporting nothing new on Torts and that Hextall in the mix as GM.
Oh, the irony of a goaltender potentially becoming our next GM after all the drama we've had the last couple of years - Chest Rockwell
There really shouldn't be anything new regarding Tortorella. Or at least if there was I'd be surprised.
I've noted this before but I don't believe the President should be making GM decisions. In a well run organization the GM should do the hiring and firing of the entire coaching staff and execute all trades at a bare minimum. Many would also consider the scouting department also to be under the exclusive management of the GM.
Thing is, Torts is the head coach but he's only 1 coach of many currently on the books. If the President fires the coach before the GM arrives, does he also fire all the ACs, only some of them? If the President begins making those decisions the GM will never be truly accountable. |

I'd have no problem with Linden finding a head coach first...
Apologies for the endless Seahawks references, but they hired Carroll from the top of the organization, then brought in a compatible team-building GM to collaborate & ensure that Pete would have the pieces necessary to put his vision on the field. That approach has been as effective as anything I've ever seen from a front office and I hope Linden's on the lookout for either a Coach or GM who has a philosophy worth developing. Which of them is hired first doesn't matter to me as long as they're both on the same page for once.

Pete's much more than an X's & O's tactician. His philosophy as a whole is one of the most impressive things I've ever studied. Nobody compares. |

He also has the ability to connect with players in a way that can get the most out of a player without babying them. Its a nice balance that not many coaches can manage. Funny to think how many people were against the hire, especially after his first season.. I know my dad was. |

I haven't watched any Canucks games (why would I?) save a few against Edmonton. But I did watch as much Rangers games as I could in his time there (realistically, maybe 10 games plus playoff's). He seemed to coach a different style in Tampa so I figured he had some flexibility, depending on his roster. His style might work with an expansion team full of kids who don't know sh!t about defense , and no talent plumbers that made a career out playing that style. |

Who doesn't. From what I have seen and read. I think he (Richardson) should get an interview. I have heard positive things. Team work ethic, playing all three periods, pushes the pace in the offensive zone. I am tying to source more info on his style. |

Just imagine how man handled we'd get with the pace of play we are seeing in the first round. We wouldn't stand a chance. |

Another reason I was laughing at people who wanted another first round appearance(sweep).

Amen brah!
Roster needs some serious changes, too. Even under AV during the lockout season they were boring as (frank) compared to the teams in the playoffs this year. |
