No kidding.

It's a clunker. It sucked and it's a playoff game, but this is where you take the 3 days off, you make some adjustments where they need to be made, you get pissed off, and you chase this team into Philadelphia for games 3 and 4.

So here we go. Take 2 on Easter Sundee. Can't wait.

- Giroux_Is_God

I actually CAN wait. Need a few days to recover and get optimistic again.

Just wanted to say I feel bad for the kid Akeson, thought he was one of the most noticeable players on the ice, in a positive way, for either team before the penalty. Kid was amped up and went for the big hit, and got his stick up. Shockingly the Rangers actually converted on the PP and made him look like the goat, but he still seems like an effective player for you guys.

Series is far from over, see you boys on Easter.

- MeanestOfTimes

Actually, he really didn't get his stick up. That's the kicker. He hit the Ranger with his shoulder, then lost his balance and torqued around, and that's when his stick said "what's up" to the face of the Ranger.

Just bad luck really.

If he doesn't fall on that hit, it's no penalty, and it's a whole different game at that point.

But....alas....

It is a series that is far from over, though. Bring it.

Coburn was good ... I thought Cooter had some good shifts.

Emery was good until the Rangers started going side to side on him.

- FlyerGuy

I thought Coburn was good as well.
Streit I don't even remember seeing.
Timonen was atrocious.
Grossman was terrible.
L Schenn wasn't terrible but really isn't showing much of anything.
MacDonald I thought was great.

Giroux and Hartnell (even with the assist) were invisible. Literally didn't do poop.
Voracek was good.
Read was meh.
B. Schenn I won't comment on since I'm biased.
Raffl was probably our best forward.
Coots was up and down, but was up there for our best forwards of the game.
Simmonds... he played?
Akeson wasn't terrible... but he shouldn't be playing in this series if he can't win a board battle. You HAVE to win the battles to beat the Rangers. Not fair to throw a kid into this mess.
Hall and Rinaldo were what they are.
Vinny got the least amount of ice time of the entire team. I'm not really sure what happened, but something is up on that bench.

They didn't just lose this game. They self-destructed. They came out in the 3rd period like they didn't even want to be there. How can you be that way in the playoffs? If being in the playoffs alone doesn't get your juices flowing then you have no business being there. This team lacks character and some of you are holding out on that "comeback kid" mentality. They haven't done that in almost a month and haven't played good hockey in a few weeks. I am not saying they are done but they have a long way to go and if they come out on Sunday like they did tonight, then it will be a SHORT series.
- Daveflyers36

In my opinion

I disagree that they lack character. A team that lacks character would've given up after starting out 1-7, and not made the playoffs. A team that lacks character wouldn't have come back in so many games. For some reason, they're just flat in some games. It's been that way all season.

I'll acknowledge all the great things Berube has done this year, but he coached like a jackass tonight. The minutes allocation to certain players has already been pointed out so I'll focus on others.

1) The conservative game plan was straight up stupid. This team doesn't have the players to just sit back and wait for the other team to make a mistake. Not only that, VL is the only guy on the team to play in such a system before.

2) Not just minutes, but use of players at certain times was inexcusable. I'm going out on a limb, but I'd say at least half the time we actually managed an offensive zone draw in the first two periods we put the fourth line out there. I can understand that occasionally, but the amount Berube did it was retarded. Also, using Akeson on the 2nd PP unit? Someone whose never watched hockey could've told you that was stupid when the situation was explained to them.

3) Not exactly Berube's fault, but all the players were robots in this game. Absolutely no emotion. And besides Hartnell's forecheck that led to our only goal, I saw no physicality all game.

They better wake the F up for game 2 or this will be a short series.

Typically, I think the opposite is true. Simmonds is one of the better Flyers in board battles. He was one of a long list of players that didn't play well.

- MJL

I'd like to say, that you adding In my opinion makes your comments seem a lot more objective and less douchey.

5 day hiatus?
- -davies-

Pretty sure it was a 5 day break from the last regular season game to this one, no?

Or was it like 3 or 4?

Meh. I'm trying.

They'll learn from this matchup, as well.

I thought Brayden Schenn was playing physically, which is how I feel he needs to play.

Coburn looked good. Couturier was good. Read and Akeson and Coots were effective as a line.

Gotta find a way to move the puck a little faster out of the d-zone, and gotta find a way to get Giroux loose.

Don't know that I wouldn't risk Raffl/Giroux/Voracek, Hartnell/Schenn/Simmonds in Game 2...I'd consider that

I do actually feel bad for Akeson. 90% of the fan base and all the radio shows are going to fry this kid and blame him entirely and it's wrong. Just watched Berube's presser and he didnt do much to kick some sand on it.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe these ARE your opinions.

I think you're taking the opinions of someone else and passing them along as your own. Very unprofessional, sir.

MacDonald I thought was great.

He left Stepan wide open on the 3rd pp and went to an already covered man.

I think Zuccarello definitely had more elite passing plays than Giroux that game.

That ice time thing is kind of disturbing.

Luke Schenn: 18:21
Timonen: 16:56

LeCavalier: 7:42
Giroux: 17:08
Voracek: 14:22

That's not good enough by Berube. I understand having good defensive match-ups but you have to play your best players.

That back end is being spread out with playing time, but again, have to play your best guys.

Penalties are a small part of that, but not such a incredible factor.

They've got a game plan for Giroux. Rangers knew, as does everyone else, that Giroux is the engine for this team. If you don't even let him get the puck, you can crush us.

I say, Rinaldo/Giroux/Hall

Hartnell/Coots/Voracek
Simmonds/VL/Read
Raffl/Schenn/Hal Gill

When you hit, and dictate the physical play, you win... It's reallly not that hard to see. Hit and hit and hit, then u win...
