Its not that to me. It stems from their inability to break out of their own end, or not get hemmed in there for long stretches.

Its a team game, and those guys from the back end are really struggling to initiate the transition.

- flyer_nutter

Yes they are.....Macdonald helps. But its the playoffs now. And each 1/10 second counts which doesnt bode well for our statues. What did Timonen do tonight? Time to move on

Ha! Bundy just said that he'd consider playing Hal Gill next game

Now, yeah, the Flyers didn't play well, but I'm not sure getting slower is the answer.

- AllInForFlyers

Gill IS certainly slow ... but one thing he does pretty well is make quick decisions with the puck. Grossmann seems to hang onto it an hour too long.

I hate New York fans of all sports. Such entitlement. The only god damn city that decrees itself "The greatest city in the world." No one else calls it that except New Yorkers.
- PhillySportsGuy

as a new yorker, i don't say that. it is awesome though, right up there.

More important than anything though... Giroux has to figure out how to make an impact against the Rangers. And he needs to figure out how to make a mark without a lot of PP chances. If that happens, the entire dynamic changes.

Was he out there tonight?

Problem is, if these guys aren't playing 110%, they look really bad. I don't remember them playing consistently well for a good amount of the season, and I don't think they can sustain that type of play for even one game right now.

out of beer yet?

- FlyerGuy

I don't drink. The calls aren't what lost them the game. They didn't deserve it. Just stating observations.

the feel of the team is noticeably different with Akeson in there.

nothing against the kid ... I just want to get back to the lineup that brought us success most of the year.

- FlyerGuy

Ummmmm he did not play in the previous game in MSG. Which was pretty much like the last 30 mins of this game.

From what I've seen the rangers were the worst matchup for them in the first rd
- PhillaBully

To me its also why Tampa is able to have success against them. Another fast team.

They continuously skate well and pressure the Flyers.

Who on that back end tonight was able to skate the puck up and initiate plays? Or outskate a Ranger forward? Not too many.

It's not the greatest city in the world.

It's the center of the franking universe.

They can muster 52 shots vs the bruins but almost none vs the rangers. It's nuts
- Hextall271

It is, isn't it?

They didn't play well tonight, and the penalty was crucial. The Rags did play well.

Just seen too many Game 1s look like this to get too down. Sometimes, you get smacked.

Just gotta see how they respond in Game 2 -- remember, the Bruins KILLED them in Game 1, maybe even Game 2, in 2010

Gotta figure out a way to generate speed out of the defensive zone, passing to a stationary forward along the boards just isn't going to work.
- ravishingone

chip it in when you hit the red line, or the forwards have to loop back to keep moving and open up passing lanes. cant forecheck standing still and it causes tons of giveaways when they had full possession

15 shots on goal. Seven 20 goal scorers and all you can muster is 15 shots? 9 straight losses and now they lose their heads. This is over in 4 if they play this way the rest of the way.
- Flyers1218

they can;t crack this team in this building. their best shot to win the series was to win game 1 and remove all doubt they could beat them at msg. my favorite thing will be watching the rags get manhandled by who every they play in the next round

That may have been the least competitive flyers playoff game I have ever seen...and I go back to the 70s....absolute disgrace

I can see them playing a little bit better than tonight but not drastically better.
I'll be shocked if they can win one game in this series. Would love to be surprised.

Don't know if there's a worse announcer to listen too then Ray Ferraro... Couldn't stand him as a player...little whiny beo-ch....and even harder to listen too as a broadcaster

To be fair, they had decent first and second periods. What really hurt them was not taking advantage of the third period powerplay, and then subsequently getting a call for high-sticking for four minutes. That's just deflating.

Listen, even if they lose Game 2--the Flyers have always made it a series once their home. I have a feeling this game was a lot about nerves than anything else.

The Rangers will make mistakes too. They are bound to because they are human. The Flyers just have to force those mistakes and capitalize on them.

Remember, this team started out 1-7. They know how to fight back. It might not be right away, or the next game, but you never count out the Philadelphia Flyers.

yeah, people don't actually say that here. lived here for quite some time and never heard anyone say that. you're going off on a weird tangent but i assume it's because you're as irritated as i am at the game.
