I know some people aren't too thrilled with Ray Emery, but I'll be honest: If we have to go with a No. 2 goaltender, I'm taking that guy.

You know he's not soft, you know he won't quit, and he has enough experience and ability to at least give you a chance at winning. He's not the goaltender he once was, as far as athletic ability, but he has maximized what he has left.

I think the Flyers get Game 1 tonight. Still can't/won't predict the series, but I think they get Game 1.

Get the puck in deep, get in on the forecheck with speed.
Don't let Lundqvist get settled in his crease, even if it costs you a minor or two.
Limit East-West plays for the Rangers, especially on the PP.
Limit the gap between forwards and defense.
Keep the feet moving.

Basically play the Rangers in MSG like we do at Wells Fargo. Why does it have to be different? What I have noticed that hurts the Flyers in MSG is that the ice quality is absolutely horrible. The Rangers are used to this. The Flyers have nothing but bouncing pucks on their sticks.

Just curious Bill, what is your pick for this series?

I like the Flyers in 6 with a split in both buildings and a 2-2 series after 4.

I think limiting the east west plays is absolutely critical to having success with emery in net.

I'm not overly concerned with ray starting, he always seems to elevate his game when it's a "must win" game against a big team, and we've seen how he can carry a team deep in the playoffs (made it too the finals with Ottawa in 07). That being said, I hope Mase makes a speedy recovery, we've seen first hand how a outstanding stick handling goalie can make a huge difference, in 2012 against the devils we couldn't get a dump and chase game going because Marty would fling the puck back out every time we dumped it in.

That's precisely why it's different. In this game, if you don't have anything going on the rush, put the damn thing in the corner. If you get there first, try to get a cycle going. In the defender gets there first, arrive in ill humor, preferably while wielding some large mallet-sort of device about you.

Yes on all of these, I would just add:

Dump the puck in McDonagh's corner and hit him every chance you get, time to put that shoulder to the test.
and
Puck Control: don't make high risk passes in the D zone, neutral zone or just inside the Rags blue line. These can be fatal mistakes.

What has me feeling confident is that when the Flyers put up MAX effort like they will tonight. They always outplay the opposition. The key is limiting turnovers and scoring on Lundqvist. Obviously

We have to get in Lundquist's face. Bump him around. Piss him off. Get him off of his game.
