the only guy on that list i've heard of is Petrovic

how many of them project to be anything but bottom pairng d-men?

i'm not asking in a "bumhole" kind of way.....i seriously want to know if any of those guys project to be top end players.

i doubt any of them project anywhere near the ceiling of ekblad.

besides, my point was that you guys are way more set with young forwards then you are with young d-men

- sensarmy_11

Both Matheson and McCoshen look to end up top 4 D-men also Petrovic. Everyone else basically bottom pair.

Matheson and McCoshen both play for BC. Did you watch any of the frozen four? Matheson played very well, he looks to go pro for next season. McCoshen just finished his first year there, he is looking really good, but needs more time to develop.

Ekblad
Bennet
Draistil
Reinhart
Dal Colle

In that order

I agree with this

I think Ekblad fits that mold perfectly. He is a PPG D-man right now. Not many can say that.
- ImThatGuy

Ekblad is more of a 2way defenseman. Not a Campbell or Karlson. IMO

Which would be good for us 2way d-man are way better to have and with his bomb of a slap shot, put him on the PP with Campbell and we could finally get our PP going again.

Then in the future he would fit perfectly with matheson. I think if we are going to draft anyone with the top pick it has to be him.

We have no one in our system that looks to pan out as a #1 d-man. The cost of trading for one is just not worth it, and they almost never hit FA and if they do it's unlike they come here.

plus, this notion that we are desperate for ekblad is funny.

our prospect strength is already on defence.
theres no guarantee ekblad will be a franchise guy.
we need wins so much more than 3 years from now. like desperately.
we also need a 2c with size.
there's no guarantee ekblad is better than nurse or klefbom or marincin.
we have no truly talented top 6 guys in our system. they're mostly all banger, crasher types that we hope turn into a true power forward to play alongside the nuge etc.

people need to get it out of their thick skulls that edm is desperate for ekblad and we need him so badly. of course we could use a franchise d!! and if edm was to pick him that's great. but picking draisaitl or bennet would also make a ton of sense

i don't think anyone was suggesting one of those players AND the pick......at least i hope not.

i was assuming they were talking about maybe klefbom and the pick, or gagner adn the pick........or something like that.

i wouldn't trade hall/rnh/eberle straight up for that pick, let alone add the #3 pick.

- sensarmy_11

"In this case it might be the best type of leverage since Edmonton is heavy in talented forwards, and Florida is in desperate need of such players. Maybe Florida acquiring one of those forwards to move down two spots"

maybe he included perron (which is still a giant no) but he couldnt've meant anyone else
outside of that group who would be considered a truly talented forward? lander, arcobello, pitlick? even our prospects are big power forward crashers. khaira, moroz, chase,

Sigh.....

I'm getting sick of hearing all these uneducated opinions about the Oilers and how they MUST take Ekblad. Its seriously getting really comical at how stupid some of these suggestions are.

Anyone thinking they can bend the Oilers over for their pick are truly delusional.

"It's not at all absurd. Moulson, Charra, Luongo come to mind rather quickly. Yeah, nobody wants to play in an area of 70 degree weather, 45 minutes to south beach, and no luxury tax. Beautiful arena, beautiful practice facility. I'd rather look at shiytty Uniondale, and then play in a arena that has no business housing a hockey team in Brooklyn. I'm sure Viola could have bought the Isles since he probably knew of Wangs intention to sell, he came here, where the future is better, and a team that doesn't have to be the beat up step sister to the NYR."
Panthersgoal

This from your last thread. Guessing you're a bit young bud? Moulson? We didn't want to resign him that's why he was traded. He is not even close to being worth what he was looking for and just about all Isles fans are not disappointed to see him go. Not happy with the trade or the return of course but Moulson is not a good example for your point. I'm no fan of Snow but as far as Luongo and Chara go you're bringing up players from a different regime that were traded due to an owner that had zero money. Your Brooklyn comment is absurd. They are moving to a state of the art of facility in Brooklyn and you find reason to criticize that too? Reaching a bit maybe? Not to insult here because I'm someone who always cheers for you guys and you have some good posters on this thread but compare our history to yours and our present team to yours. If you think you're ahead of the curve with our present team you're blind. As far as your Viola comment goes are you nuts? You guys can barely sell a ticket and you have tickets that go for 8 bucks and come with a hotdog and a beer. Gimme a facking break. Future is better? looooool. Before injuries we had two of the top 5 scorers in the league. Tavares alone forget about Strome, Nelson, Lee, Okposo, and Nielsen makes our future better and brighter forget about Dehaan and every one of our blue chip defensive prospects. As far as living in "sunny" Florida and south beach and players lining up to go there I lived in SB for two yrs and Islamarado for a year. Nice place to visit but I'm back in NY. Yeah no player wants to live in NYC or beautiful LI where you have the Hamptons and the greatest city in the world. They'd rather go to Florida. lol. Your post was way off base and quite frankly you're in no position to say jack shat about ANY team in this league under the circumstances. Congrats to you guys on winning the draft btw and think before you post next time.

- Cptmjl

I stand by my post. All of it. And, if you think that Barclays is good for hockey, that just proves how rancid the Mausoleum must really be. I have to admit, I have not been inside of it since the 70's. Take a peek at the floorplan for hockey. I'm not going to berate NY vs. Fla. I do think before I post, so not directions are required by you. This franchise IS in better shape than the Isles, not much I admit, but it is. Don't brag too much about the history, you'll start sounding like a Leaf fan, dwelling on the past with crap in your hand for today.

my bad.....thought you were referring to someones post.......didnt even read the blog

yeah, the 3rd and one of the "kids" for the first would require a gm on par with milbury to accept. i wouldnt even trade one of the kids straight up, let alone include the #3 pick.

Oil will trade their pick. They aren't getting Ekblad and none of the other Dmen are worth #3 overall. Picking another skilled forward would be suicide for Lowe. Trade it, you'll get a good price for it.

I disagree. It can't be a pure skill forward, though. It needs to one that brings a different element to the game than the rest of the youngsters do (think Draisaitl size and heaviness or Bennett's spark plug aggressiveness). I'm at the point where I don't really care what happens with that pick as long we get either one of the top-4 prospects (Draisaitl, Bennett, Ekblad, or Reinhart), a package including a top-4 Dman, or a package including a 2C with size and defensive acumen.

Tallon addressed the fact that he'll bring six new veterans to the squad. I'm thinking one at least of those will be a "#1 d-man" which means he'll pay for it. We also have some pieces to trade.

Sounds like Buffalo has their eyes on Draisaitl so Edmonton won't get him at 3.

I know about that, so if they do pick him, then they will take ekblad.

i also can't imagine florida passing up ekblad.

beyond gudbrandson and kulikov (who might not be with the team next year), they're thin and pretty old on the back end.

they have tons of good young forwards, but very little on defense........i'd be SHOCKED if they didn't take Ekblad.

I think edmonton is gonna get one of the Sam's

- sensarmy_11

Tallon has always drafted dmen late, plus i think he feels Reinhart can be his Toews.

Panthers need to take Ekblad. Best player available even if he is a Dman. Plus even if the order remained BUF -FLA -EDM it would still go the same way in my opinion: BUF=Reinhart
FLA=Ekblad
EDM=Bennett
FLA will still take Ekblad as Tallon even said he wants to add 2 NHL ready Dmen at the draft and hey, there's one of them.

But who is available? A lot of teams aren't going to trade away a real #1 d-man and if they do it's going to cost a LOT!

I tend do agree. I guess it will cost a lot then, because I don't see us getting six veteran forwards!! Lol, and we're stuck with Ellis. He's going to go after the true number 1. Can't wait to see it all go down. There of course may be other dmen on his radar, but..he must be thinking number 1 guy.

dont brag about history? Is that because you have none? Who gives a shat about the floor plan for hockey and why the fack do you care? You think the players give a shat about the seating arrangements? As far as your knock on leaf fans you're no better than the clowns that come in here and bust your balls about moving the panthers to canada. Delusional
