They could have everyone but Berglund and possibly Tarasenko back tomorrow, and all Tarasenko needs is to be cleared by a doctor. Plus, they haven't won this week because of injuries.

St. Louis was my pre-season sleeper to win it all. But six losses in a row, possibly no Oshie and no Central Division title made me change. If they had won the division, I likely would have taken them, but facing Chicago with a rested Kane and Toews, I think it's too big of a hurdle to climb. The column was written Monday, so had to go with what I knew at the time. That said, would it shock me if St. Louis won, not at all. In the column I wrote, I originally had a Scenario B in which St. Louis beats Boston to win the Cup.

I think both teams are going to bring everything to the table. The series will be as close as can be in my mind. I'm predicting STL in 8 games.

Im really surprised people think COL will go anywhere beyond the second round with that terrible blue line. At some point its going to get exposed, BAD. Varlarmov is having a good year, but he can only weather the storm of 40 shots every night against other cup contending teams for so long

That and Jan Hejda is still a top pairing dman for them. That will not win you a cup

Looking at the roster on paper, yes most people agree with you, even I do as an Avs fan cant see them going that deep, but crazier things have happened.

But people all season have been saying this exact same thing about this team, that they wont go anywhere, wont make the playoffs with that blueline. 82 games later and they won a division title. Maybe there is something going on with that team besides looking at individual players that is getting the job done. I cant explain it, you can rationalize it with PDO Stats or individual Corsi.
Varly behing Vezina caliber all season has helped that D Shortcoming, and even with Varly people have said the same thing, he will come down to earth, being shelled in the Olympics he wont play that well back, his confidence is shot, etc. Yet he kept his pace going.

The ony thing that Avs have that some teams dont is the amount of speedy game breaking forwards.

The big difference is being a good team night in and night out beating a different team every night by playing an efficient brand of hockey. Nashville did this model for years, but its not a successful model to go deep in playoff hockey when you need to matchup against ONE team for 7 games and protect your weaknesses over that span. Other teams will have a handful of games to expose that blue line. Its easier to protect that blue line for a game here and there against different teams with a hot game from Varly
