We need Giordano now, especially as a mentor for new D coming through the pipeline (Ekblad is a strong possibility despite what TSN says).

Doesn't matter if you guys think he is top 10 or not, we know he is. Gio is the perfect captain to bring us through the rebuild (although I have to admit he would be the perfect captain for the leafs too) and it would take a massive overpayment. 1st Gardiner and Kadri might seem like a fair deal, but I think it would set us behind in the rebuild because we need his leadership right now.

As for the P.K vs Gio argument. If you were allowed to have 1 of them for 1 year only, who do you take? I think its pretty obvious that you would take Gio. P.K would be the obvious choice in the long run because he is younger.

Karlsson's defensive ability is on par with most rookie forwards.

i don't even know if it's ability so much as it is disgust with the idea of lowering himself to playing defence.

Anybody bring up the point of a top 10 Dman finishing 11th in Norris votes yet?
- weirdoh

The norris voting isnt done. That list was points....And he only played 64 games....

To an extent sure... I was probably wrong in saying (last season) that Kadri is every bit as good as Eberle, maybe cuz Kadri is a leaf and I like his physical element. But at least i own up to it now. Some people have a really hard time admitting they are wrong, I'm not one.

getting 3 good young assets for a veteran sets you back in the early stages of a rebuild?

PS- nobody's saying our 1st, Kadri, and Gardiner is a fair deal for Gio. It's an overpayment.

I remember in a game VS the Leafs, the CBC crew was going crazy about the defensive plays that any junior hockey player knows. They couldn't find enough positives for him. But when it came to all his turnovers and defensive miscues, they were oddly silent.

I think the Leafs scored all their goals while he was on the ice that night.

I would over pay a bit for a UFA than give up that package for a 30 year old, I don't know..

Nonis isn't that stupid... I like Gio and all, but I wouldn't give up much for him. Definitely not Kadri...

they did the same thing a few weeks ago when Montreal played Ottawa. gushed about Karlsson all night while slagging PK. Montreal only scored 7 goals that night.

This is crazy talk. You think acquiring a 23 year old #7 pick 20g/50pt scoring C, a 30+ point 24 year old D with upside, and a #8 overall pick would hamper a rebuild, and hanging on to a 30 year old defenseman would help with a rebuild?

Acquiring young, developing assets and futures is what a rebuild is all about. If you need veteran leadership to mentor the kids, you can get it pretty easily via FA. A deal like this would be a coup for the Flames' rebuild, and as much as I like Gio, it would be an overpayment on the Leafs' part.

The best was when Glenn Healey jizzed all over himself about Karlsson regrouping behind the net instead of starting the breakout before the rest of his team was in position. "WHAT MATURITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mmmmmmmm that felt good.... oh is my mic still on?"

I'd toss in Riemer too!

I think Burke MAY go for...Riemer, Gardiner, 1st and a prospect due to him being able to draft more centers.

Did you miss MacT's press conference where he said he's not adding anything unless its a top 2 Dman? Franson is not that.
- Iggysbff

Well when that fails and our D is once again facing the possibility of being worst in the league we might have to think about 3 balanced pairings and a D by committee approach. I don't know where we're getting this 1st pairing D from when nobody is willing to give one up
