He needlessly checked a defender into the goalie. It doesnt matter if it was intentional or not. You go to him right then and there.. not a period later after you lose your goalie to a (probable) concussion.
- jak521

Just bad luck for Mase on that one -- it's not exactly rare to see that kind of poop happen.

I know the Flyers are fond of doing that to other teams' goalies.

Think I'm gonna get a ban for telling the pens blog (where I'm usually very civil) that I hope a Blue Jackets player checks a defender into MAf and MAF goes down for the playoffs? I'm setting the odds at 3:2 in favor of a ban.
- jmatchett383

Good. (frank) them. Pens deserve something dirty to happen to them

That will actually help them. Unlike our team.

Don't say it. They may be hoping for the same thing.

We should really think about trading Couts now. His lack of speed is really going to hurt the team when he reaches 30.
- PhillySportsGuy

See now you go off the extreme. in moving hartnell your moving a power forward who is not good defensively and prone to bad penalties. Will he become more dominate as he ages. I would guess not because I can't conclusivley say. I know your trying to predict but making the sarcastic comment about couts is not the same. he is a young cost controlled defensive center with potentially more offense to give. I would guess his delince is not happening anytime soon compared to hartnells game.

With Emery I'm thinking we need at least 4 goals against the King to win. When was the last time we scored 4 in the garden?
- GOA88

Ugh. I seriously hope you're wrong. If Emery gives up 4, he and our D both played like complete and utter poop, and/or we took a boatload of stupid penalties. Sadly, all possible.

I just cant help but think what Giroux could do with a player like Corey Perry
- GOA88

Probably get 10 more points per year.

I can't help but think what Giroux could do with a legit #1 defenseman.

Hemsky-G-Voracek. We'll be the best puck possession team, but the Corsi numbers will be terrible because none of them will shoot.
- PhillySportsGuy

Or Mark Streit would end up win 30-goals from all the glorious tic tact toe

If only we knew how Perry would look with a top playmaking center.

It didn't really look like that big of an impact.

Hopefully the Flyers are playing possum and just giving Mason a rest while giving the Philly media some red meat to gnaw on.

He has Getzlaf and IMO Giroux is better.

See how it helps to have a negative outlook. I sensed from Berube's comments on Monday that Mase wouldn't go game 1. More people need to read deeper into quotes to get the true meaning. I've been prepping for Emery.

If that were the case, Getzlaf would have been neck-and-neck with Crosby for the scoring race. Instead, he was neck-and-neck with Giroux for a distant second. They're different players, but their playmaking abilities are about the same, in different ways. In fact, I'd argue that Getzlaf's power game better suits Perry (coming from behind the net, driving the net as opposed to play from the boards and stickhandling around defenders on the rush).

Based on what? They're different types of playmakers, but their end result is about the same. Giroux is the more "stylish" playmaker a la Gretzky, but Getzlaf is the more "unnoticeable yet dangerous" playmaker a la Oates. Not comparing the players' skillset, just the ways they go about their playmaking.

That just tells me that Giroux is the better player. He doesnt have a superstar on his wing. He had a 40 year old Jagr and scored 93 pts.......

There are quite enough negative outlooks in Philadelphia sports.

That is why I hail Mason as the Flyers messiah--the chosen tender with whom all time, all space, all future success and the overcoming of past-nightmares rests upon. It is on his shoulders that we rest our faith.

And who will resurrect this team as we approach Easter Sunday?

Who but W. Steve Mason!

To all you Anaheim over Dallas types,

Despite all your "facts" and "logic" about the Ducks being a "better" team,

I denounce you strongly.

Thank you.
