I was a studio artist. The single most subjective grading I've ever been involved in. My favourites were the ones where your classmates gathered and critiqued your work and you got graded based on that. Sitting there thinking "I should have been nicer to that b!tch."

I minored in creative writing in my undergrad.

I know the feeling from work-shopping drafts.

I never got graded based on my work, but in my freshman composition class, we had to give our papers to a classmate and they'd help us "edit" the paper. It became very clear that some (maybe most) kids in college do not grasp the English language well at all. I basically took my paper back, reread it myself ignoring all of my classmates' edits, and handed it in. Oddly enough, I still managed to get an A, all by myself.

Edit: My only flaw that I am readily aware of is an overuse of commas.

my writing has gotten worse over the years....after 10 years of writing software and millions of lines of code in different programming languages, i can barely write a paragraph without a ton of spelling and grammatical mistakes. A shame really, because i used to love to write.

Get rid of Schenn and put VL on the second line. Why is everyone so high on Schenn? He doesn't bring much to the table horrible on face offs, weak shot and a horrible passer. There is a reason he is still not signed.
- tk71

The reason he is still not signed has zero to do with how good of a player he is.

Yup. I got a 98% in my freshman writing class. People would "correct" my paper and I'd read them and be like "ummm no" and make the executive decision to override 99% of my partners' corrections

Sometimes, I have run-on sentences and It's really not my fault because the english language wasn't taught well to me because I went to a public school and the teachers paid more attention to the kids who really couldn't write and never paid attention to the rest of the class, but I guess they had to because the kids really needed the help.

I refuse to use a comma before a conjunction. I find it completely unnecessary. That's the only stance I have on punctuation and grammar.

I use commas before certain conjunctions. I believe it's acceptable both ways. I may be wrong though.

No, I'm pretty sure you're right because I've been told a gazillion times that I'm supposed to use a comma there. Screw it. I'm not doing it.

I was taught that some form of punctuation is necessary in all places that you have a pause. Which commas are necessary? Is the sentence technically acceptable yet bulky?

So, I went to the store, but they were out of turkey, but, luckily, they had plenty of chicken.

With Oxford Comma (before punctuation)
For our party, we invited strippers, JFK, and Marylin Monroe.

Without Oxford Comma:

For our party, we invited strippers, JFK and Marylin Monroe.

In the second, JFK and Marylin Monroe are the strippers.
In the first, we invited strippers as well as two public figures.

One time I played a hockey game and we were a bunch of 15 and 16 years olds playing in a men's league and were were winning late but they had a 2-on-0 and I was the last man chasing them and when I was about to catch the guy with the puck the other guy jumped on me and I was mad so I got up and let my face rake across his cage so he jumped up and two-handed me in the helmet as hard as he could and we only had 5 players and our coach and my 320-pound kickboxer best friend and they had a full team of men so we got into a big fight and my friend beat the balls off one guy but they all ganged up on him and their old man coach ended up kicking him when we pulled people off the pile and he spat at the coach. True story.

I know sorry.. I was almost sure thats what was going on when he left practice early yesterday. Probably went out to test it, felt weird, went back and hoped on a stationary bike and felt like poop.

That does make sense. I've rarely used commas before 'and' in any case. I guess I need to adjust my technique.

Well, I was 15 at the time. And it is all true. I left out the part about their pat Puerto Rican friend wearing sandals chasing my teammate around while my teammate kept screaming, "I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!!!"

You don't know what it's like to be a Devils Fan, because we've had a lot more winning and success than your franchise.
- Crushers68

bwahahahahahha....are you (frank)ing kidding me?

the devils have exactly 1 more stanley cup, and of course have moved twice. the flyers have had a tremendous amount of winning and success in their history including 8 trips to the final. obviously it hasn't translated to the ultimate goal more than twice, but i wouldn't trade it to be a fan of any other franchise.

beat it, Richardwad.
