There's no way the Isles are giving up the 5th pick to you guys
- Ihatebrianburke

theres no way of knowing until june 1st

and most people are about 50/50 that will or wont (and I personally would love for them to give us their 2015 first instead)

I think people are way too early with cementing the rankings right now. The juniors playoffs are still raging, the combine and interview sessions are coming up and more importantly the U18 tournament where the older players that are generally ranked higher begin to slip simply by not playing and the younger guys bringing impressive performances.

I think there's going to be surprises just like last year draft.

I think you guys will get the NY I pick this draft,so would Buffalo trade that pick + for the Oil Pick?

Oh and that only happens if Ekblad and Reinhart are gone with pick 1 and 2.

hope not, if they do any trading in the first, i hope its packaging the 31st pick and the blues first (if they make it to the WCFs) with something to try and move up and grab Virtanen, he might be favorite prospect in the draft, reminds me of Perry.

Too bad Feaster isn't picking before us...

"The Calgary Flames are pleased to select the player we think will be the best in this draft... some mean-ass high school biatch."

- BigDre

yeah Monahan was a terrible pick at 6

Jankowski wasn't picked high in the draft despite what some seem to think

There's always a surprise or two

I remember the confusion when Hampus Lindholm went 6th overall and the TSN crew going "wtf" since he was ranked by every list between 15-25.

Picked in the 1st round. Sure bet nobody else would have touched him until the 4th round. the Janitor was a waste of a 1st round pick.

Think this deserves a bump form the other thread....

Bob Stauffer ‏@Bob_Stauffer 4m

For the 2700th time do not see why so many experts feel it is Ekblad or bust for the Oilers...use the #3 overall and take the Center!

- Iggysbff

cause they arent 'experts', theyre idiots. and this is the conventional wisdom of what we apparently need to do.

but as so many of us who follow the team have said so many times; "there are literally 10 solid reasons why it would be every bit as prudent to pick another player." not to mention that half of the stuff these so called experts believe to be solid facts about the oil and therefore the reasons we must pick ekblad, arent even true!!!

there's a small group of pundits whom opinion I respect, the rest dont have a fukin clue about the oilers. it's all guess work based off of myths, sensationalism and BS to attract viewers.

i still remember that dude who had us ranked in his top 3 coming into last season....

I'd say Florida won't pass on Ekblad because he's kinda the consensus no.1 and they already have three young Cs but then again I thought Seth Jones was destined for COL so who knows.

I just don't see it just my opinion,if the Oil do take him I hope I'm wrong or it will be a super bust,I hope the Oil do have a chance tho of Reinhart or Ekblad,I know Bennett can be a almost a safe choice but the Oil are full of small players, and Between Dal Colle and Ritchie I would go with Ritchie.
- AlEx_OiL

draisaitl is the same height and 30lbs heavier than reinhart

Edmonton is just stacked with fast, skilled playmaking forwards. They need a big mean monster that can light a fire and has the mitts to score a few goals...who wouldn't want a Milan Lucic on their team?
- sudburyboy

if you can guarantee he'll be as good as milan lucic, we'll pick him.
unfortunately u arent able to do that, and everything is guess work. thats why its a draft and not just a player dispersal.

Set your sights on LD. Good chance Ekballs and Benit are gone.

This is why I don't think that happens.

Scenario is Isles give 2014 1st to Sabres
Sabres trade 5th overall to Edmonton 3rd overall

There's an opinion there's a talent dropoff between top 4 and the rest. Ekblad and whoever the Sabres perceive as the top center are gone. Now. When Edm steps up, my guess is Reinhart is still there..

Reinhart (and LD) is currently a much better prospect than the likes of Dal Colle or Virtanen. Which means we have to likely toss in a pair of seconds to move from 5 to 3. I don't see Murray giving up a roster guy of significant value to hop into the 3 position. If Ekballs is in fact available after pick 2, the scenery changes immensely but this scenario is running on the fact that he's not. Final thought is Murray will trade his picks for primarily quality young players and secondarily for better picks. I'm unsure if he'd offer a pair of seconds just to move up a couple spots in a weaker draft.

Here's something I wanted to get an opinion on. A lot of you guys are apparently scared off by the fact that Ekblad gets a large part of his points on the PP as opposed to ES.

The fact still remains though that he's a GOOD defensive player at ES, and with our PP and defensive scoring this year utterly stunted, in large part because we lack that big shot from the point, why is it a knock to see that this kid flat out dominated the PP?

- Morris

Yea I don't understand the issue with his points coming off the PP, we had a total of 2 PP goals from defenseman this year, I think it's safe to say we could use some production from the point on the PP

Mac t may still want to pick up a second. I hope he doesn't move down to get it. I don't know much about the second round talent in this draft. I mean if this is considered weak, do we wAnt to trade down?

I hope we stay at 3 and pick draisaitl. Bennet/ekblad/dal colle are fine too.

Gagner + 1st for _____ + 1st is also intriguing if we can pick up Ritchie (even if he has consistency issues)

mact stated he is not interested in waiting until the 4th round to pick again. move some prospects and later picks to get a 2nd and 3rd would be good.

there's rarely a middle ground with those kind of guys. They're either Milan Lucic (good), or lazy like Dustin Penner (bad), or unskilled like Cal Clutterbuck (bad)

a scout on tsn 1260 today stated draisaitl skates when he has the puck on his stick, but coast around when he doesn't.
- deks1

Essentially he's Dustin Penner. That's why we need Sam Bennett.
