Sure but there's a reason why teams tend to strip down assets prior to a sale. So the idea of adding $70-$80 million in contracts when you're trying to unload the team would be a bit counterproductive IMO.
- keaner17

This is a gross exagerration.

Edit; no it's not for the life of the contract

Because I think this team is monumentally better with a better coach. I get the degrees of associationi in that Snow ultimately makes the decision to hire him, but Cappy is more more immediate concern of the two.
This is not a 'defense' of Snow or even an insinuation that I want him around. I can take or leave him (preferably leave), but given the talent we have coming up, I want Cappy out NOW.

- keaner17

I guarantee it is. No question in my mind- if Julien is coaching THIS team, as is, it's a playoff team. Not a contender- there are things that need to be addressed, obviously. However, it would at least be around to learn another first round lesson. With this guy, I seriously wonder if anything short of a Lundqvist or Rask would make that much of a difference.

All these arguments are arguments for Snow being utterly incompetent. I hate to say this but, Cptmjl is right. If Cappy is a bad as you say (I agree with you) then Snow is even worse for keeping him. As bad as it was to stick with Cappy last year - announcing he will be back the day after the last game is inexcusable.

We also have to assume than Wang had a say in all these decisions as well

Yeah....but Snow could remain in his position next year with a new coach and this team could be a playoff team. I don't think the same could be said the other way around.

Please. I'm starting to wish I never became a fan of this team as a little kid. I have zero faith in these buffoons to make any significant improvemts in the offseason. It's gonna be the same poop. Sign some crappy FA's from the bottom of the barrel, then be told that they tried to add top free agents, and this is a playoff team. Shame the final season in the coliseum is most likely going to be as bad or worse than this past season.

I wouldn't trade this years pick. If Snow and company really believe this year was Snow's fault (which many do), then he should also feel that a few major additions would get this team back in competing shape. Watching Strome, de Haan, Nelson and Lee develop and the addition of Mayfield and Czuczman makes me think there's simply too much talent developing to allow this team to be a lottery team next year.
Keep the pick.

At this point I’d just give up the pick, especially if they drop down to 6th. It doesn’t matter what “Snow and company” believe…they’re alarmingly and consistently wrong. Heck, the season barely ended when they already failed on the first of the three big offseason needs to address in order to get better next year: a new coach. It’s hard to believe they’re going to knock it out of the park with the other two needs: a good goalie and a legit defenseman.

Last year, faced with the exact same two needs, the answers were “no change” and “no change.” I know I’m sounding like Randy Quaid in Major League 2 here, but I’m curious to know why anyone thinks it’s going be different this time. None of the three needs here are particularly new…we’ve been dealing with them since like 2008. They’re just never effectively fulfilled by this crowd in charge.

With respect to Dan’s point of them essentially admitting next season is lost by trading this year’s pick, I get that. But it’d be one offseason of anger over it. I don’t know if it’s worth it to sacrifice what’s going to be a high pick in next year’s draft in the name of messaging to the fans to save face.

It's Snow's job to build a successful team. There's more to it than just the players. If THIS team could play better with different coaches, trainers, equipment managers or any other position then Snow didn't do a good job.

So if Snow thinks Cappy will be a good coach next year he sucks at his job. If Snow didn't want to bring back Cappy but couldn't convince Wang he sucks at his job. Either way sticking with Cappy proves he shouldn't be the GM. If he is willing to stick with Cappy (for whatever reason) then no one should expect his next coaching decision to be any better. Be prepared for coach Weight and more disappointment.

Two reasons. 1. I don't want it to go to your head. 2. When you're right it usually means the Islanders are wrong.

There is no face to save. Is there anyone still on board with this BS? Serious question to the masses.
